Job Description

The Engineering technician will be based in Milpitas, CA.  Supports engineering services activities such as hardware and software design and development (non-production) within the manufacturing operations at Flex. Responsible for performing product inspection and/or audits of PCBA’s / Box Build Units to satisfy the quality control programs, first article inspections, documentation, reports and calibration, out of box audit (OBA) and sampling and testing of incoming components and raw materials.  Ensures raw materials, in process assemblies and finished products are built and tested to meet company / customer quality standards.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…


  • Performs complex engineering tests, checkouts, and development engineering tasks.

  • Analyzes engineering test results, and implements changes to resolve problems.

  • Collects data, analyzes results and implements procedures.

  • Reviews project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.

  • Devises, fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, server systems, machine tools and measuring instruments.

  • Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design, or to obtain data for development, standardization, quality control and problem resolution

  • Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and modifies or adjusts equipment to meet specifications.

  • Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test method.

  • Maintains software, documentation and equipment to the latest revision or operational specifications. 

  • Assists engineers in developing and designing hardware and software required to test customer products per their specifications.

  • Trains technicians and operators on products, processes and equipment.

  • Inspects and or audits processes, tests and products and/or develops, compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products.

  • Working from engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, diagrams, written descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform complex engineering Reliability testing, checkout, First Article Inspection, root cause analysis, internal corrective actions and supplier correction actions.

  • Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.

  • Selects processes to be inspected or audited from primarily the manufacturing areas and checks for a variety of features, including ESD (electro-static discharge) and handling practices, documentation, training and process integrity.

  • Selects products for audits at specified stages in the production or post-production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance and mechanical, electrical or cosmetic characteristics.  Takes high resolution photographs with microscope, digital camera or other optical imaging equipment.

  • Operates and or performs calibration on inspection tools microscopes, Environmental Chambers, Mechanical testing Equipment, etc.

  • Records audit data, applying statistical quality control procedures.

Here is some of what you’ll need (required)…


  • AA degree or equivalent with electronic training or working on similar role least 10 years.

  • Technically sound in general troubleshooting principles (use of o-scope, probe, multi-meter to pinpoint component failure)

  • Has worked within a Reliability Lab.

  • Can troubleshoot and debug during failure analysis of products.

  • Knowledge in quality standards (8d, statistical process control, FEMA and control plans)

  • General test experience.

  • Been able test certain component.

  • Schedule availability.

  • Analytical.

  • Technical desire and aptitude to learn new products.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

  • Associate degree is required.

  • At least 3 year of electronic assembly or related experience
