Job Description Summary

There is an opening for a Longform Video Editor at L.A. Times Studios, a video production company owned by Nant Media Holdings, LLC. L.A. Times Studios is responsible for a variety of projects, including “Second Opinion,” a digital series on public health, climate, technology and other topics, and Bravo’s television adaptation of the hit Los Angeles Times podcast “Dirty John.”

The Longform Video Editor will handle edits across the Studios pipeline, including post-production on our taped talk shows and on documentary series work currently in development. The Longform Video Editor is a practiced storyteller who is comfortable tackling complex, long-lead projects and ensuring orderly deliveries. The Longform Video Editor will be an important voice in the Studios ecosystem and will be asked to collaborate with producers and DPs during pre-production and production. The ideal candidate is both self-sufficient and a team player.

This position will report to the executive producer, Studios.

Job Description

Responsibilities:


  • The Longform Video Editor will handle edits on Studios projects, ranging from post-production on our current events talk shows to documentary series currently in development.

  • Working with project’s producer and in conjunction with senior producer and post-production supervisor, the Longform Video Editor will craft the post-production schedule on a project and then pursue delivery milestones.

  • Responsible for delivery of Studios video projects to relevant platforms, including webpages of the Los Angeles Times or external partners and clients. In the case of the L.A. Times, this means navigating the newspaper’s CMS and handling the mechanics of publication.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Substantive experience in documentary or longform television news fields.

  • A strong sense of the narrative mechanics of longform storytelling.

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premier and familiarity with elements of the Adobe Creative Cloud. Familiarity with post-production workflow in a broadcast television environment.

  • Weekend work and other irregular hours may be required occasionally when on deadline.

  • We’re looking for team players who enjoy collaboration with other members of the production team.

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premier and some familiarity with elements of the Adobe Creative Cloud.

  • Five or more years of experience in the documentary or television news fields.

  • Strong track record delivering original longform content to television or established digital platforms.

  • Working knowledge and experience across Adobe Creative Cloud.

  • Ten or more years of experience in the documentary or television news fields.
