Job Summary


Anesthesia & Critical Care Mito Unit is seeking a Research Tech III.Our research focuses on advanced therapies for treating cardiac arrest and traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and potential therapeutics for mitochondrial diseases to reduce neurological and mitochondrial damage. Clinically, our research helps to improve pediatric survival outcomes and reduce neurological deficits post -cardiac arrest/TBI, in addition, to growing the scope of knowledge related to mitochondrial disorder therapies. Our focus is on critical illness: Traumatic Brain Injury, Cardiac Arrest, Extracorporeal Life Support, Cardiopulmonary Bypass, and Defense against Chemical Weapons. We have developed several novel therapeutics and neuromonitoring devices that we have moved to FDA approval and upcoming clinical trials. Our laboratory is truly a translational laboratory including multiple models of critical illness, including: in vitro, zebrafish, rodents, and large animals. Looking for passionate well rounded individuals with distinguished organizational, communication, time management, and critical thinking skills. Willing to work in both a team and independent setting. Prior lab experience in cell/molecular, preclinical vertebrate studies, or biological studies (e.g. neuroscience, animal science, pre-med/pre-vet, bioengineering, or closely related fields). Preferred skills/content knowledge of Powerlab/Matlab, Prism, RedCap. Master's degree preferred in biological/chemical sciences, but not required. Preferred prior experience with animal models and/or animal care.

Job Responsibilities



  • Performs research procedures on experimental samples with minimal supervision

  • Formulates and performs complex lab experiments and analyzes & reports the data

  • Performs tasks that require knowledge of advanced techniques and equipment

  • Performs advanced calculations and maintains appropriate log and lab notebooks

  • Assists with planning specific research protocols and procedures

  • Assists in development & troubleshooting of new techniques and ideas

  • May be required to modify scientific methods and protocols (in conjunction with PI)

  • Checks others results for completeness and accuracy

  • May be responsible for training and mentoring new staff

  • Assists in the preparing of grants journal articles, poster and oral presentations

  • May perform routine and non-routine tests / experiments as needed

Required Education and Experience


Required Education: Associates Degree or active enrollment in a Bachelor's Degree Program

Required Experience: One (1) year of laboratory experience


Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic


Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Experience: Two (2) years of laboratory experience
