This position performs routine plant operations tasks and duties. Monitor plant equipment, taking routine readings, performing preventive and minor maintenance. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the plant. Plant Operator II roles are commonly filled through advancement from Plant Operator I.

Roles and Responsibilities


  1. Monitors and controls plant operations

  2. Constantly reviews the operation of the plant to monitor production and quality, anticipating and solving problems in a timely manner, and identifying opportunities for improvement.

  3. Participates in projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.

  4. Maintains adequate records of key production variables such as production volume, yield, plant uptime, utility consumption, etc. on a daily, weekly, and/monthly basis, as required.

  5. Collaborate with contractors and vendors for all activities.

  6. Responsible for equipment lock/tagout for maintenance and repairs.

  7. Recognizes equipment abnormalities. Communicates with maintenance regarding significant repairs.

  8. Communicates directly with the maintenance department to coordinate maintenance and repair work in process areas.

  9. Performs preventative maintenance activities as required.

  10. Assists maintenance technicians in performing maintenance and repairs.

  11. Assists with diagnosing and trouble-shooting process related issues.

  12. Able to understand problems and develop effective solutions.

  13. Responsible for ensuring proper flows, temperatures, pressures, and levels. Recognizes operating deviations and takes appropriate corrective action.

  14. Ability to operate plant processes using a DCS control system, preferably Delta V.

  15. Responsible for recording of parameter values, completion of operating reports, notification of environmental deviations, and equipment lockout/tag-out for maintenance and repair.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: 2 -5 years of plant experience

Skills and Competencies:


  1. Mechanical training and practical experience in an industrial operations and maintenance setting.

  2. Ability to operate, troubleshoot and maintain plant equipment, including reciprocating engines, pumps, exchangers, coolers, air compressors and related facilities preferred.

  3. Manual dexterity with physical ability to work extended hours, climbing, bending, kneeling, working with arms extended above the head, twisting upper body, standing for long periods, walking on catwalks, working in confined spaces, exposure to extreme weather conditions, lifting, driving a vehicle, and operation of light industrial equipment.

  4. Ability to operate a hand, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools,

  5. Strong communication skills and a positive attitude are required for this position as well as the ability to effectively work in a team environment.

  6. Ability to work rotating shifts.

  7. Ability to work overtime and respond to call-outs during off hours.

  8. Ability to respond in a timely manner to any emergency.

  9. Basic PC computer skills and trainable in custom software applications used in flow computers, gas chromatograph, plant controls, and Process Safety Management.

  10. Possession of a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
