Position Summary:

The Compliance Investigations Lead Counsel will report to the Chief Compliance Officer and will have comprehensive responsibility for the effective and efficient management of compliance investigations globally including: (1) lead, oversee, and/or conduct internal investigations and leverage internal resources appropriately in support of effective investigations; (2) oversee operation of the Zoetis Compliance Helpline Portal and related mechanisms for reporting and escalating potential compliance issues for investigation; (3) engage and oversee external legal counsel, auditors and other external resources, as appropriate, in consultation with the Chief Compliance Officer; (4) provide stakeholders, including senior leaders, with written and verbal significant matter updates, trends, root cause analyses, and other investigations learnings to support effective compliance risk reporting and management; (5) coordinate with various functions and stakeholders to determine and implement appropriate corrective measures including disciplinary action as appropriate. The Compliance Investigations Lead Counsel may perform other, related responsibilities as determined by the Chief Compliance Officer.

Main Responsibilities:


  • Lead the Zoetis Compliance Investigations function supporting effective, efficient and timely resolution of compliance matters consistent with applicable law, regulation, Zoetis policy, our Code of Conduct and Core Belief "Always Do the Right Thing"

  • Oversee and conduct internal investigations, including intake, assessment and prioritizing appropriately; develop and implement investigative work plans and conduct investigations leveraging internal support functions and expertise as necessary. Coordinate update and close out calls with business leaders to discuss findings and agree upon corrective measures.

  • Prepare clear, succinct and concise reports (including memos and PowerPoints) documenting investigative work plans and findings; and present those findings to key stakeholders including senior leaders as appropriate. Provide regular updates on investigations, findings, benchmarking and trends to the Chief Compliance Officer, General Counsel, and other senior leaders as appropriate.

  • Oversee and manage the Zoetis Compliance Helpline Portal and other mechanisms for reporting and escalating potential compliance issues for investigation, as well as the internal systems and process for documenting, internal reporting, benchmarking and trend analysis. Assist with metrics reporting including but not limited to the Executive Compliance and Risk Counsel and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.

  • Establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with multiple stakeholders including Zoetis Legal, Internal Audit, Human Resources, operations and commercial teams colleagues and others in support of the Zoetis Compliance Investigations function

  • Collaborate with the Zoetis Compliance team to inform the development, risk-informed adjustment, continuous improvement and overall effectiveness of the overall compliance program

Education and Experience:


  • Juris Doctorate required; currently admitted to practice law in at least one state in the United States or the District of Colombia

  • At least 7 years of prior experience conducting internal investigations, preferably for life sciences companies, and track record of successfully managing a compliance investigations function

  • Excellent judgment, influencing skills and leadership abilities in working with different stakeholders, particularly with mid-level and senior leadership

  • Diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: strong capacity for teamwork and collaboration; demonstrated success organizing and aligning cross-functional stakeholders on significant investigations or projects

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Highly organized and detailed oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and independently

  • Understanding of SAP and Ariba or other enterprise resource planning business management software

  • Mastery of MS Office Tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)

  • Optimistic outlook and friendly demeanor with a dynamic work ethic
