Spec Engineering is seeking an impact player and difference maker to join our team as a Design Engineer. This self-driven engineer should be able to manage several project tasks simultaneously and have the capability to react quickly in a fast-paced environment. The nature of this position is one where attention to details, procedures, and specific job assignments are required.

Spec Engineering is a privately held, fast growing, and stable full-service process engineering firm/turn-key system integrator with our main office located in Plainfield Il, and a second location in Chicago. We provide the latest in technology as a system integrator in the food & beverage, general manufacturing, and chemical industries. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Produce effective product and process designs using Auto CAD and SolidWorks and understand engineering and manufacturing techniques.

  • Prepare multiple solutions to satisfy design requirements.

  • Create 2D and 3D drawings and models from written and verbal specifications.

  • Specify dimensions, materials, and procedures for new projects.

  • Work with Vendors and customers to optimize designs.

  • Responsible for model accuracy, design, drafting standards and design documentation for individual projects.

  • Review drawings for completeness and accuracy.

  • Work closely with other designers, drafters, and engineers to ensure coordination of design effort is maintained.

  • Prepare engineering documents for customer submittal.

  • Maintain all revisions of project drawings.

  • Update and maintain drafting library.

  • Provide timely technical assistance and solutions to the team.

  • Participate in project meetings and conference calls with vendors and customers as required.

Education/Experience:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical/industrial engineering or related preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years’ industry experience.

  • Experience in an OEM environment is preferred.
