Education and Experience

Advanced clinical degree (PhD., MD., Psy.D., DSW, DrPH, MSN, APRN, MSW) in a related field is strongly preferred. Master's degree required.


A minimum of 7 -- 10 years of experience in a progressively challenging role with a demonstrated track record of knowledge of behavioral healthcare including system of care development, operations, budget, financial analysis, contract negotiations and revenue generation is required.


The position requires a blend of skills and experience in strategy design, development and execution. Critical to this role is discretion and judgment to organize priorities, build and follow a plan, complete tasks and handle confidential information. Demonstrated experience in the behavioral health field. Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with Connecticut Children's standards.

Job Description

The Senior Director of Behavioral Health is responsible for leading the planning, development, implementation and operational oversight of the Connecticut Children's pediatric behavioral health strategy. This individual will work as an operational leader and thought partner to our leadership team to drive key decisions and implementation of our behavioral health initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and families in our communities.


We are seeking an experienced leader who is passionate about improving the behavioral health of children. Our ideal candidate will have experience designing and building a comprehensive behavioral health plan inclusive of community/agency engagement, prevention, behavioral stabilization and triage, inpatient bed capacity optimization, inpatient placement, advocacy and new program development and evaluation and outcomes.


Drawing on a broad understanding of the behavioral healthcare environment, government and community agencies, this individual will work partnership in with our physician, nursing and administrative leadership to create proactive insights and plans that deliver sustainable results. The experienced leader will have the responsibility for identifying and designing the behavioral health continuum of care through collaboration and partnership with agencies, schools, community health care providers and health systems. The continuum of care includes both inpatient and offsite behavioral health facilities.
