JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Project Engineer

Position: Exempt

Location: New Richmond, WI (Twin Cities East)

Manager: No

Reports to: Engineering Manager

SUMMARY OF ROLE

In a team environment, this is a multi-functional position responsible for managing new injection molding projects from initial customer conversations (and or sales team) and quoting, through to a successful release for production.

This process requires frequent communication and coordination with customers and internal teams, quote generation, part and tool design review, establishing quality assurance and validation process requirements, manufacturing cell design and setup, and successful handoff to production team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Works with Engineering Team:

  • Tooling process and acts as an interface between the customers and the organization during the tool development or tool re-engineering process.

  • Function as a liaison between the organization and the customer for sampling, technical, and quality issues.

  • Reviews tooling specifications and drawings, sources vendors for production of same and provides the Process Engineer with appropriate costs for quoting purposes.

  • Proactively manages vendors in the manufacturing of new or re-engineered tools to ensure customer expectations are meet.

  • Conduct engineering experiments using statistical methods where it appears design specifications are making it difficult to produce acceptable product at satisfactory costs.

  • Keep abreast of leading-edge technologies relating to equipment, materials, tooling, and processing through technical journals, seminars, trade shows and professional organizations.

  • Justify and implement technologies that will improve competitiveness.

  • Aware of general equipment hazards and follow and utilize all applicable safety features.

  • Knows the location and understands the purpose of Safety Data Sheets.

  • Aware of the first aid supplies location.

  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment and keeps work area clean of debris. Adheres to all safety procedures

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS


  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or three to five + years of related experience and / or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  • A minimum of three to five years' experience in production activities in a plastics injection molding environment is required; experience in an ISO 9001 certified environment is desired. A working knowledge of injection mold design, mold construction and the use of CAD is required.

  • A general understanding of GD&T is required, ability to assist with fixtures for production and QC assist as needed is desired.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and technical procedures is required.

  • Must be able to effectively present information and to respond to queries from management groups, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS


  • This position requires the employee to frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, and occasionally lift or move up to fifty pounds

  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away

WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, hazardous office chemicals (i.e. copier toner, etc.), and the risk of electrical shock from office equipment and related items. The noise level in the office is usually quiet.

  • Further, the employee is in the company's shop where they is exposed to additional moving mechanical equipment/parts and hazardous chemicals; including exposure to electrical shock; dust particles; unstable material placement, and other common hazards found at a plastics molding operation, the noise level is moderately loud up to or in excess of 100 decibels. When required, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should be worn in the shop.
