Job Summary

Under minimal supervision inspects and collects envelopes, ensuring product quality of each box and carton. Provides training and assistance to lesser skilled personnel.

Essential Functions

These are functions a qualified incumbent or applicant must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Tends machine that automatically prints, cuts, apply adhesive and folds envelopes.

  • Place new flat cartons onto cart

  • Open and fold carton, box

  • Pick up empty carton and place onto tilted rollers

  • Select and grasp required amount of envelopes

  • Jog envelopes by hand or use vibrating jig

  • Place stack of envelopes into box

  • Fold and close top flaps of the carton

  • Push the carton sideways into automated taper

  • Carry or toss scrap envelopes into large wheeled bin

Other (Non-Essential) Functions

Includes functions which are normally performed by persons holding this title. However, these functions may be reassigned to other employees as part of a "Reasonable Accommodation" under the ADA.

  • Sweeps and cleans up work area during and at the end of shift.

  • Other duties and assignments as required.

Job Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret orders and verify print copy.

  • Ability to read and comprehend quality requirements and manuals.

  • Ability to use a ruler to verify envelope construction.

  • Ability to count, monitor and verify production.

  • Demonstrate problem-solving concepts to ensure quality packaging and rework.

  • Good communication skills, i.e. ability to work effectively with coworkers and communicate with all levels of management. Ability to convey a positive image to coworkers.

  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

  • Constant standing/walking on concrete surface, intermittent periods of brief sitting are possible.

  • Ability to walk/stand on anti-fatigue matting up to 3/8" thick.

  • Occasional lifting and carrying of new corrugated boxes. The worker can select amount of weight. Typical weight averages 7-10 pounds.

  • Ability to lift single flat carton (1-1.5lbs) close on side and carry 3 feet.

  • Ability to lift stacks of envelopes (3-5lbs) from 35"- 42" once every 30-45 seconds.

  • Good eyesight (correctable 20/20) to monitor print copy and color.

  • Ability to compress stack with 5-6 pounds of force using a squeezing motion with palms facing each other, duration averages 2 seconds, 4 times per minute.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. infrequently.

  • May need to traverse ramped platform with a maximum of 4-5 inch rise.

  • Constant reaching at, or below torso level. Horizontal reach of 25"

  • Constant gross grasp, beginning at 5" and compressing to 1.5"

  • Frequent pushing sideways across midline with 2-3 pounds of force at 34" -- 36" height

  • Constant use of visual acuity

  • Ability to work in a noisy environment, able to tolerate ear plugs (mandatory hearing protection)

  • May use cotton gloves.

  • Ability to work in an environment with rapidly moving equipment and to tolerate noise and dust associated with such equipment.

  • Ability to understand and work with the company's ergonomic procedures.

  • Exposure to heat and cold dependent on outside temperatures.

  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
