Location: Melbourne, Florida
We are looking for a Specimen Sorter (Overnight, FT, 40 hours per week) in our Melbourne, FL location.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30pm to 5:00am
The Specimen Sorter is responsible for sorting various specimens as they enter the lab.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Sorting all specimens in the lab for processing in a timely manner.
Ability to separate by specimen type. (Clinical, Women's Health, GenPath, Toxicology, Histology, and Cytology)
Knowledge of ALL specimen types
Knowledge of Logistics Routes arrival time and estimated volume
Must be able to handle leak or broken samples
Ability to document and comprehend the sorting and handling process for Blue bag/Stat, Regular, GenPath, Frozen Windows, Priority, Airports and FedEx
Ability to consistently distribute and prioritize work to all Processors.
Work requires close attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.
Specimen Collection-collect specimens from all Processing stations and deliver to the specimen handling area
Adheres to Safety and Quality policies and procedures
Sort processed specimens into racks for delivery into the lab by pour off groups
Multi-task between different specimen handling functions
Understand strict quality regulations and adhere to prescribed SOP
Maintain composure while working in a high energy level of production
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to work in a high volume and fast paced environment.
Ability to multitask.
Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Ability to read numbers.
Work requires sitting, standing, and/or walking for periods of up to eight hours.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds
Responsible for lifting carrying, pushing, and pulling objects
Work requires contact with specimens and requisitions, hand washing and cleaning, biohazardous body fluids, and hazardous chemicals.
Work is varied in nature with sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress.
