Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Pilot Plant System Technician in South Charleston, WV.

Job Summary:

Dow has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Pilot Plant Systems Technician with Dow's Packaging & Specialty Plastics and Hydrocarbons R&D in South Charleston, West Virginia. You will actively participate as a member of our Systems Team where you will be responsible for the instrumentation and the electrical systems, and the highly integrated distributed control system for the facility. You will work closely with the Operations Team and maintenance personnel to ensure to ongoing safe and proficient pilot plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Applies previous related experience, job-related training, or formal vocational training to ensure safe and efficient operation of assigned plant areas.

  • Operates and field checks process equipment, and monitors process conditions, equipment, and control systems in a defined area.

  • Performs tasks assigned to operations as per Master Task List (e.g. Field checks, equipment preparation, instrument calibrations, etc.).

  • Uses trouble shooting skills to resolve process related deviations and problems, and understands how the assigned duties relate to others in the team and how the team integrates with other related teams.

  • Monitors, collects, and inputs plant metrics for Statistical Process Control, asset utilization, and identifies opportunities for plant optimization.

  • Performs process equipment troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance.

  • Uses process knowledge and skills to make improvements in plant performance and Operating discipline, including creating and improving job procedures.

  • Write Safe Work Permit (SWP's) and perform lock out/tag out.

  • Participates and leads electrical hot work following established procedures.

  • Participates in Root Cause Investigations.

  • Performs process upset/crisis response activities.

  • Demonstrates proficient application of Life Critical Standards, operate plant discipline and sets role model in safety culture.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years work experience with instrumentation and electrical systems, including the installation.

  • 3 or more years work experience in a chemical plant, manufacturing plant, or pilot plant.

  • Willing and able to work overtime and take night and weekend call outs to meet plant needs.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Experience in process and instrumentation tubing installation.

Physical Requirements:

Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting

  • Stand 50% of the time.

  • Walk for extended periods of time

  • Work at heights, climb stairs and ladders.

  • Work in tight and closed in spaces.

  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator.

  • Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.

  • Work in an area with hazardous materials


  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Journeyman electrical certification is required.
