Summary:

The Sr Manager of Systems Design Engineering is a key member of the Corporate Operations Engineering leadership team, representing manufacturing test system planning, resourcing, delivery, and validation that drive manufacturing. This role oversees manufacturing test system development and deployment including fixture design, test equipment development, integration across global factories, and overseeing controls engineering functionality for equipment. Reporting directly to the Director of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Equipment & Tooling, this role is empowered to focus on innovative solutions, sound delivery, and excellent customer service to the many stakeholders that rely on manufacturing product test system guidance.

Supports R&D and OPs engineering projects to identify, define, document and implement System level software standards in System Software applications and project deliverables during the design process, across different functional stakeholders in hardware, software, firmware and systems engineering. Manage the deployment strategies that is portable and scalable across DVT, Product Development, and Manufacturing needs. Manage the test architecture requirements for all external vendors that develop Test Systems which includes requirements generation, test specifications development, code reviews, management of source code, test case development, System level acceptance criteria, and deployment strategies. Manage and lead the deployment of new systems with design and standardization of data to global manufacturing data systems which preserves and maintains data configuration traceability between DHF submissions and source systems in engineering such as requirement management systems, test case management systems, software source control, issue management systems and other business solutions used during product development. Manage the early integration efforts with key partners to understand controls / PLC architecture and implementation. This individual works in close relation to OPs and R&D to implement workflows, business rules, features, reports, templates and other formats as well as training to ensure System data outputs are consistent with product requirements and company standards.

Functional Description: Management

Directs the activities of a staff integrating hardware and/or software framework, systems and/or product design functions or designing underlying architecture for use in one or more product offerings. Evaluates final results of design assuring accomplishment of technical objectives. Prepares and presents reports outlining the outcome of projects and makes recommendations for actions necessary to achieve desired results. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Manage teams of internal, external, and contract resources that design, deliver, validate and maintain manufacturing test systems for a wearable based medical product. This includes PCBA and Final Product across different types of functional Test Systems.

  • Drive and collaborate across Ops Engineering teams for V&V activities throughout the manufacturing processes for NPI and sustaining needs.

  • Review new designs, enhancements, and programs with product developers and the test system architect for operating efficiencies

  • Manage teams to improve and enforce validation processes in accordance with our quality system, compliance regulations, and industry best practices.

  • Manage budgets, project schedules, and report and resolve project issues.

  • Oversee the identification, evaluation, and implementation of vendor-supplied test system solutions.

  • Lead cross-functional partnerships with department heads in R&D, operations, quality assurance, contract manufacturers, and other stakeholders to define project scope, estimates, and seek organizational alignment.

  • Deliver excellent customer service to stakeholders and internal customers.

  • Provide technical and sustaining support across all Dexcom Manufacturing sites

  • Evaluate the performance of production equipment and test systems to monitor trends, issues, starts, stops, and growth patterns.

  • Coach and mentor teams of engineers and technicians towards elevated maturity of requirements planning, design-for-test analyses, support documentation and training of solution platforms

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:


  • Experience with high volume manufacturing of medical devices in a regulated environment

  • 5+ years management experience in Test Engineering for Manufacturing.

  • 5+ years' experience managing external vendors for developing and deploying manufacturing test systems.

  • 5+ years electrical engineering experience with design and development of PCBAs for GMP manufacturing

  • 3+ years' experience managing controls engineers and/or experience with controls / PLC

  • Strong skills in ASIC Test in an embedded environment

  • Proficient with Test Platforms using National Instruments Test Stand.

  • Proficient with Test Platforms using National Instruments LabVIEW.

  • Proficient with SW and System Integration development using Allen Bradley or similar PLCs.

  • Proficient with Automation solutions that include HMIs, PLCs, SW connectivity layer (i.e, Ignition) and external interfaces to global data warehouses.

  • Proficient with of development and deployment of PXI based Rack and Stack Systems.

  • Strong skills in 6 Sigma with ability to apply SPC across Product capability

  • 5+ years Software Development/Management experience with requirements management, test case management, issue management, document control, code reviews, and strict version control.

  • 5+ years with Jira and GIT or related experience with source code control

  • Strong skills in developing V&V methods and processes for Functional Test Systems.

  • Highly detail oriented in design, programming, debug, and documentation work.

  • Ability to plan work and accomplish objectives with minimum of direction.

  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills.

  • Strong skills in creating and making technical presentations to small and large audiences.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with Windows 10 and Microsoft Office suite.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • High attention to detail, personal initiative, and follow-through.

  • Ability to adapt to change quickly and develop strategic options or solutions on the fly.

  • Demonstrated experience as an independent thinker and starter.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Deployment of Test Systems for Medical Manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Experience in high volume Medical Device manufacturing preferred.

  • Custom Rack and Stack Test Systems development experience preferred.

  • Development experience with Automating manufacturing Test Systems preferred.

  • System Level development experience with Bluetooth and NFC application technologies preferred.

  • LabVIEW (2012 or higher) Development experience preferred.

  • PLC ladder logic SW development experience preferred.

  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group.

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Experience and Education Requirements:


  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree with 13+ years of industry experience.

  • 5-8 years of previous people management experience.

Travel Required:

  • Up to 25%
