Springer Nature is looking for a Chief Editor to set editorial strategy for and oversee the future development of Scientific Data, the dedicated data journal for the Nature portfolio.  As a journal devoted to the publication of valuable datasets and research that advances the sharing and reuse of scientific data, Scientific Data is an essential part of Nature Portfolio’s mission to promote open science. As the Chief Editor, you would be responsible for furthering this mission.

 

This is a high profile role within a strategically vital area of the Springer Nature open access portfolio.  As Chief Editor, you would shape the strategic direction of the journal, in close collaboration with the external Editorial Board and internal journal team, and you would act as the ambassador for the journal through engagement with the global research community. Your efforts will be instrumental in enhancing the journal’s visibility and standing in the research community. 

 

Responsibilities include:

• Preparing strategic plan for the development of the journal, in collaboration with internal Editorial and Publishing colleagues, and Editorial Board members


• Ensuring that published content reflects the spectrum of research in the journal's scope


• Providing line management for the internal journal team


• Developing the Editorial Board


• Acting as the key voice representing thejournal within the internal editorial and external research communities


• Meeting regularly with authors, reviewers and external editorial board members to understand their priorities and needs


• Contributing to the expansion of open data initiatives at Springer Nature

 

To be considered for the position, you will have:

• A thorough understanding of the data publishing landscape, including detailed knowledge of open access publishing, and familiarity with community priorities in this area


• PhD-level relevant research experience


• Strong demonstrable editorial experience in the selection and processing of manuscripts


• Excellent leadership and team-building qualities
