The Commodity Manager is responsible for identifying and managing short and long-term sourcing strategies, contracts and relationships with suppliers.  Responsibilities include improving supplier delivery, quality and lead-time and reducing inventory in order to improve customer service and total cost of ownership. The Commodity Manager will be responsible for developing and managing projects for the purpose of new product development and improving the supply chain. Supply chain improvement projects may include supplier risk mitigation, regionalization and/or cost containment. AS A COMMODITY MANAGER, YOU WILL: 


  • Assess supplier capability, cost benefit analysis, issue resolution, risk mitigation and contingency planning
  • Responsible for strategic management of specified commodity including total cost optimization including, payment terms, inventory and lead-time reduction and supplier consolidation
  • Participate and lead contract negotiations
  • Coordinate technical and commercial reviews with Suppliers, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Supplier Quality and Materials departments
  • Manage projects through completion with thorough tracking and reporting
  • Assess and communicate technical risks, business requirements, deliverables and schedules supporting project initiatives
  • Drive Procurement initiatives to completion inside the estimated project schedule
  • Develop and maintain systems and processes necessary to maintain and drive supplier suggested cost reduction
  • Coordinate efforts between Suppliers, Engineers, Quality Assurance and Procurement Personnel to facilitate material substitutions, standardization, rework etc. of purchased materials
  • Forecasting and delivering cost reductions to meet division goals
  • Maintain existing databases to ensure data integrity

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:


  • Bachelor’s degree required, major in business or engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years’ production purchasing and materials experience in an ERP manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of management
  • Knowledge and experience managing mechanical commodities (precision machined components)           
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in or lead cross functional teams
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret engineering drawings, quality systems requirements and customer specifications
  • Ability to understand component requirements and communicate requirements to suppliers
  • According to Government Regulations all employees in this job classification must be a US Citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Ability to travel 10% including international
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

  PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:  
  • CPIM or CPM certification preferred
