Job Description:

The E.W. Scripps station KXXV/ KRHD 25abc is hiring for a weekend forecaster / multimedia journalist. As weekend weather and weekday MMJ, this person is responsible for preparing and delivering accurate weather reports for the weekend morning newscasts and responsible for researching, writing, capturing visual content and editing stories for multiple platforms three days a week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Weather Forecaster (weekends)


  • Prepare and deliver daily weathercasts utilizing all available weather data and graphics computers.


  • Prepare and deliver urgent weather updates interrupting regular programming as necessary.


  • Prepare and deliver all weathercast materials over a variety of mediums, including, but not limited to TV, Internet, Social Media, Radio, Newspaper, etc.


  • Assist management in evaluations of potential new weather data gathering and presentation computers.


  • Receives assignment or evaluates news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.


  • Write and produce quality news stories for multiple media platforms.


  • Report on a variety of subjects and write stories for broadcasts and sweeps pieces.


  • Report live from event sites or mobile broadcast unit.


  • Report, write, capture visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline, such as Internet and digital channels.


  • Participate in community outreach projects.


  • Perform other duties as needed and assigned.


Multimedia Journalist (3 weekdays):


  • Receives assignment or evaluates news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.


  • Conducts interviews and does research to generate content.


  • Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.


  • Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories.


  • Edits, or assists in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.


  • Appears on television program when conducting taped interview or narration.


  • Gives live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.


  • Work cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.


  • Assist news producer in preparing newscast.


  • Assist online staff in preparing for multimedia stories.


  • Report, write, capture quality visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline, such as Internet and digital channels.


WHAT YOU’LL BRING:


  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in Broadcast Journalism and/or Meteorology, or a related degree or equivalent years of experience.


  • 1-3 years prior relevant experience preferred.


WHAT YOU’LL NEED:


  • Thorough knowledge of weather data interpretation and forecasting.


  • Computer literacy required, including weather and newsroom computer systems.


  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred. Knowledge of Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar editing equipment desired.


  • Must be able to shoot and have knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.


  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.


  • Proficient at posting content to various websites.


  • Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.


  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.


  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.


  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.
