The Department of Epidemiology, at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, studies the frequency, distribution, and determinants of disease in humans, a fundamental science of public health. In addition to pursuing ground-breaking global research initiatives, we educate and prepare future medical leaders and practitioners as part of our mission to ignite positive changes in the quality of health across the world.

The HaSET ("happiness" in Amharic) Global Maternal and Child Health Research Program at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Boston Children's Hospital invites applications for a Research Project and Data Assistant (Research Assistant III) position. HaSET works closely with partners in Ethiopia and Ethiopia's Federal Ministry of Health to generate evidence to improve maternal and child health programs and policies. Within the HaSET research program, the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH) has several nested sub-studies. See https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/haset/ for more information.

The Research Project and Data Assistant will assist a vibrant research program on maternal and child health. This position will provide full-time data analysis and research support, working closely with colleagues in Boston and Ethiopia in the following areas:

  1. Data analysis and management
  2. Study implementation and protocol development
  3. Capacity building and mentorship

PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term end date 2 years from date of hire, with possibility of extension.

PLEASE NOTE: Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit work samples, and finalists will be administered a data management assessment/exercise.

PLEASE NOTE: Once normal operation resume, there may be opportunity to travel to Ethiopia.

PLEASE NOTE: The primary work location for this position is Boston, Massachusetts. Until our return to campus, which is still to-be-determined, this interview process and position will be conducted virtually - including virtual interviews, remote onboarding, and remote work. The remote nature of this position is only temporary. Local, on-campus work will be required once the School and this role return to an operational status that supports it.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of related experience with 2+ years of experience in data analysis using statistical software such as STATA or R; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
