Job Description:

Essential Job Functions:



  1. Construction Management – Utilize experience and education to understand project scope, review bid packages, and complete construction in a safe and efficient manner. At times, managing construction of several concurrent projects, including civil (steel/concrete), mechanical, and electrical trades. Able to develop, modify and/or follow a construction schedule/Gantt chart with coordination of multiple trades.


  2. Contractor Management – Manage contractors with Right-To-Know, Contractor Handbook Review, Insurance Documentation, Safety Overview, and Final Contractor Performance Review. Ensure all Contractors are wearing required safety gear. Stay current with MIOSHA Construction Training Requirements.


  3. KJS – As Kalsec Job Supervisor, sign-in contractors, ensure contractors have applicable permits (Hot Work/Confined Space), communicate with areas regarding on-going work, and monitor construction progress throughout the day. Perform routine job audits. Verify construction site is left neat, clean, and orderly, at the end of the day. Able and willing to perform duties of authorized signer for work permits. Perform other duties as required for safe execution of work.


  4. Kalsec Policies – Review/Develop/Enforce Kalsec Engineering Standards and Policies. Ensure Contractors are following all required Kalsec Standards and Policies.


  5. Construction Job Quality – Review Contractor daily progress. Review and document any contractor rework. Spot check weld quality, bolt tightness, and electrical connections. Ensure all construction work has been installed as specified in the Bids. Lead and/or perform and document pre-commissioning activities.


  6. Field Changes – Communicate and document all field changes. Seek engineering approval for design changes and construction method modifications. Identify and communicate potential installation issues to project managers as soon as possible.


  7. Contractor Logistics – Coordinate contractor parking, shipping/receiving, visitors, bathroom/break area, temporary power, and temporary welding fabrication area. Locate receiving area for contractor rental lifts or cranes. As required, develop and/or communicate safety plans, including special precautions due to new or ongoing public health concerns; e.g., COVID-19 or other special operations; e.g., overhead/crane work.


  8. Final Project Documentation/Closeout – Field mark up all construction drawings and ensure redlines / as-built drawings go to CAD. Develop project construction folders, containing all equipment documentation, non-destructive testing results, motor rotation verification, instrument loop checks, and any other pre-commissioning documentation. Ensure the completion of pre and post startup PSSR activities. Participate in Project Commissioning.


  9. Process Safety Management – Document code welds, piping X-rays, equipment and piping system hydrostatic tests. Working with the Mechanical Integrity Coordinator, coordinate/generate preservice inspections, baseline thickness measurements, etc. for the Mechanical Integrity Program. Participate in PSM program auditing for the Contractors element (OSHA PSM 1910.119(h)) with resolution of assigned recommendations.


  10. Food Industry Experience – Familiar with SQF, HACCP, and GMP practices. Leads contractors in food safety practices, addressing audit recommendations, and ensuring construction practices do not put food safety at risk. Ensure that all SQF requirements (Post Construction Review, etc.) are met prior to building turnover. Work with QA Supervision to temporarily suspend GMP Requirements. Collaborate with SQF Practitioner to ensure active work does not jeopardize food safety.


  11. Project Development – Support Engineering Department / Project Management efforts in scope development of projects, including field verifications, measurements, walkdowns, isometric development for field routing, layout/siting reviews and development, schedule coordination and/or Gantt chart development, etc. as required. Assist Engineering in bidding and procurement activities.

  • 10 years construction supervision experience

  • Experience with OSHA Safety Standards

  • Attention to Detail
