Special Education Statewide Instructional Coordinator

Position Summary:
Responsible for developing instructional supports and providing technical assistance to local education agencies to increase statewide capacity of education systems in serving student with disabilities age 3 through 21. Responsibilities include: collaborating with internal and external project staff to implement programmatic goals; supporting implementation of statewide initiatives; creating, disseminating, and updating guidance modules and documents; leading statewide monitoring efforts; planning, organizing, developing, and providing in-person and online instructional professional development opportunities; and working as a team member to promote goals and maintain positive climate.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Special Education or Social Services- including 6 credits in the areas of disability and technology (education, rehabilitative, or assistive). Experience: • Three years experience in program evaluation, educational coaching, in-service training, and direct technical assistance;
• In the theory and practice of public education, including understanding of systemic planning and instructional outcome improvement;
• Leading team-based projects to create and deliver quality guidance and professional development;
• In the Individuals with Disabilities Improvement Act (IDEA) and the special education process for children ages 3-21;
• Data-based decision making and systematic instruction to improve achievement for students with disabilities;
• Curriculum-based instruction, current instructional and assessment research, instructional technology/design, current special education issues and trends;
• Planning, organizing, and coordinating instructional supports and direct training for school districts on a variety of special education instructional and programming issues;
• Developing and delivering training, coaching, and supporting adult learners to implement, evaluate, and sustain evidence-based practices;
• Leadership role in working with school districts, advisory, and/or community groups related to special education and implementation of instructional strategies that include systematic instruction;
• Utilizing strong interpersonal skills and abilities to work effectively as a member of a team to promote team goals and maintain positive team climate.
Skills Specific to this Position:
• Computer skills: Using computers and software for email, scheduling, word processing, data organization, and research;
• Data collection methods and procedures;
• Experience using IEP Software.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Four years of special education teacher experience; • Experience as a consulting teacher, supervisor or director of special education or similar position with specialization in supporting special education educators, developing trainings in the areas of instructional strategies supports, in addition to an understanding of the eligibility process and identification of an adverse effect on educational performance and the need for specially designed instruction; • Experience with foundational principles of behavior analysis and positive behavioral approaches in natural settings.
