Type: Full-Time
Location: El Segundo, California

Job Description:

Join the hundreds of talented and innovative team members who are making an impact every day at California Times, incorporating Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union-Tribune, two of the most iconic media brands in the nation. Whether you love to tell compelling stories or want to drive our award-winning powerhouse in new directions, the Los Angeles Times team is the place to be.

Job Description Summary

The Los Angeles Times is looking for an accomplished writer and an itinerant soul to join our Mexico City bureau. We want a dogged reporter with a sharp eye for detail who can spin out narratives, profiles, analyses and breaking news in a region of vital importance to our readers. The successful candidate will be a Spanish speaker who will join our two seasoned correspondents to follow news stretching from Mexico to Central and South America. Coverage will include immigration and political and economic issues that resonate with Southern California’s large Latino population.

Job Description

The reporter must be skilled in multimedia storytelling and in blending images, sounds, graphics and words into online gems. We want a self-starter who can wander down a seldom-traveled path and come back with a well-observed tale that speaks volumes about a place and a people. The candidate must have a minimum of five years of experience and possess a collaborative spirit.

This beat is integral to the mission of the Los Angeles Times in an era when a pandemic is retreating but its effects will be felt in a region that was already struggling to meet the aspirations of a young generation.

Requirements:

  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish

  • At least five years of reporting experience

  • Willingness to travel at a moment’s notice

  • Ability to work cooperatively and adaptively in a team setting

  • Must be able to work under pressure, multitask and produce high-quality work in a deadline-driven environment

  • Skilled at using computers, software systems and tools

  • Must be able to work irregular and/or long hours

The L.A. Times is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes expressions of interest from people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Explore our company history, achievement, values, mission and more on our Careers Site.

Qualified candidates should submit a resume, cover letter and clips to Foreign and National Editor Jeffrey Fleishman.

Please note, the opportunity to attach additional documents appears on the third screen and is labeled “Upload.”

Thank you for your interest in joining our team at the Los Angeles Times!  We look forward to reviewing your application.
