The Learning Experience Designer, Learning Experience, will support the execution of learning experience project plans to develop in-house language teaching and learning content for online, blended, or asynchronous delivery, with a unique focus on all things related to assessment. He or she will also be responsible for curating 3rd party content to maintain a robust product portfolio. He or she will be a crucial part of the internal LX team in the creation and curation of highest-quality, innovative instructional content for consumption in all Berlitz markets worldwide. They will join a global-minded, diverse team to handle a variety of pedagogical and editorial tasks and be responsible for the satisfaction and success of our internal and external customers.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Focusing on student assessment within a wide variety of current and new assessment solutions throughout our foreign language product portfolio (200+ titles)

  • Assessing and recommending Third Party Content Providers and language solutions to stakeholders to maintain consistency of the Berlitz brand

  • Gathering customer feedback, market research, and analysis from stakeholders to make recommendations on new courses or language solutions

  • Consolidating formal and informal student assessments and additional data points into actionable product improvement recommendations

  • Conceptualizing and developing the scope, sequence, and guidelines for new projects

  • Training and guiding external resources and communicating effectively to ensure deliverables meet pedagogical and editorial standards

  • Reviewing content design elements including text, artwork, images, illustrations, audio, and video and ensuring the highest global quality standards are executed

  • Adapting communication styles and workflows as needed to suit a wide variety of target audiences, proficiency levels, and instructional objectives

  • Applying expertise in the Berlitz Method, CEFR scale, ELL/SLA pedagogy throughout the content catalog, both in the creation of new courses and improvements on existing courses

  • Supporting teamwide Learning Experience initiatives by applying existing workflows and processes and by taking an active role in improving them

  • Identifying and resolving pedagogical or editorial issues to support customers post-product release

  • Supporting development of online learning materials and content by editing, lead editing, copyediting, and/or rewriting content in Berlitz authoring tools for a variety of large and small projects

  • Applying in-house editorial guidelines and stylesheets, taking an active role in keeping them up to date and relevant


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Native-like fluency in English required

  • Good fluency required in either Spanish or French-more languages a plus

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in English, foreign languages, teaching, assessment, or related

  • Experience and/or coursework with a focus on student assessment required (with a focus on oral assessments preferred)

  • OR Experience and/or coursework with a focus on content curation required (with a focus on SLA/foreign language learning)

  • 3-5 years' professional experience in e-Learning minimum (5 years' experience in ESL editing also accepted)

  • 1-2 years' experience managing editorial freelancers and vendors

  • Experience using data analysis to drive decision-making

  • Master's degree in a relevant field a plus

  • Experience working within remote and intercultural teams a plus

  • Experience working on audio and video production projects a plus

  • Sound knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style-17th edition a plus

  • Experience developing content for a global audience a plus


COMPETENCIES:



  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills (for diverse, remote, global environments)

  • Sound knowledge of different instructional methods and learning preferences-live and also blended, online asynchronous/self-study

  • Familiar with modern e-learning instructional design (e.g., microlearning, gamification, storytelling, social engagement, etc.)

  • Excellent eye for minute details and consistency

  • High level of organizational skills, and ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and agile work environment

  • Excellent sense of priorities and solution-oriented attitude

  • Open to giving and receiving constructive feedback

  • Ability to work independently as well as being part of a diverse and global team

  • Personal and professional experience overseas a plus

  • High proficiency with standard software such as Microsoft Office and Google Docs/Microsoft OneDrive

  • Experience with Content Management Systems (Articulate, Captivate, Storyline, etc. a plus)

  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (Totara, Moodle, etc.) a plus

  • Knowledge of basic HTML & Markdown formatting a strong plus

  • Knowledge of audio and video editing tools a strong plus

  • Comfortable using new technologies, interest in innovation


WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:



  • Report to Manager of Learning Experience

  • Ensure constant collaboration with Product Management team

  • Collaborate directly with Project Management team

  • Direct interaction with all members of Learning Products team

  • Communication with, training, and instruction of partners, vendors, and freelancers


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Little to no travel is required for this position. Occasional training or staff meeting will take place at Princeton Headquarters, not to exceed 5% of the time.


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, servers, video calls on multiple platforms, and headsets.
