Responsibilities:

The candidate selected for Global Business Communications Consultant will have multiple responsibilities including our Connected Care & Insulins business, consisting of our extensive insulin portfolio, including our latest entry, Lyumjev; and our connected care platform, including insulin pumps, pens, and digital platforms. The candidate also will support business development agreements that help grow the CC&I business, and environmental shaping communications that support reimbursement and paradigm-changing initiatives. The candidate also will support insulin affordability communication, including message development and keeping our media strategies fresh and updated.

The consultant will report to the Senior Advisor of Lilly Diabetes Communications. The candidate will operate within corporate communications through the Lilly Diabetes BUCA (Business Unit Corporate Affairs) with a core focus on the company’s diabetes business. The consultant will partner with cross-functional colleagues including, but not limited to, Corporate Communications, Executive Communications, Digital and Social Media Communications, Employee Communications, Investor Relations, Government Affairs, Global Public Policy and Corporate Affairs contacts in Lilly affiliates around the world.

Specific responsibilities include:


  • External communications support for Connected Care & Insulins, our business area that focuses on new technologies making insulin delivery simpler and more effective. Responsibilities will include press materials, media strategy, development of key messages, and media training of key spokespeople regarding our insulins, connected pens, pumps, and digital assets.

  • External communications support for Lyumjev and Basaglar, our newest insulins. Specific responsibilities include publicizing key data, social media, and issues management.

  • Support around insulin affordability. Responsibilities, in working with the senior director of diabetes communications, include message development, maintenance of key language, development of press releases, media monitoring, and management of assignments given to our PR firm.

  • Provide media training, communications counsel and coaching to internal business partners.

  • Manage day-to-day public relations activities that support assigned responsibilities.

  • Anticipate, prioritize, and prepare to manage possible negative issues in the media.

  • Develop and edit communications materials for media use such as press releases, internal Q&As, fact sheets and other media materials.

  • Conduct and/or facilitate interviews with local, national, and international media outlets

  • Partner with key communications partners in our global affiliates

  • Assist with other communications projects as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism or related fields.

  • Minimum of five years of communications experience (communications, journalism, public relations, etc.) with a strong understanding of both traditional and social media

Additional Skills/Preferences:


  • Demonstrated experience in the development and execution of strategic and creative communications plans, including digital and social media

  • Experience working successfully with cross-functional teams, including collaboration and consensus building

  • Demonstrated influence with business partners

  • Project management experience

  • Experience in media relations, including interacting with A-list media and serving as a spokesperson 

  • PR agency management experience

  • Experience engaging with leaders

  • Ability to manage issues/crises; ability to handle stress

  • Creative communications skills – written and verbal, as well as interpersonal

  • Ability to understand the business need and use communication to drive the business forward
