Summary of Job Duties:

The Director of Military Student Success helps military students successfully transition and acclimate to the academic environment of UA Little Rock. The director engages in outreach to prospective military students and assists them in developing academic success strategies, exploring career options and declaring a major. The Director of Military Student Success plays a critical role in cultivating an inclusive and welcoming campus community with particular attention to the needs and concerns of veteran students. The director manages all Military Student Success Center programs and serves as a visible resource and advocate for military-affiliated groups at UA Little Rock. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.



Qualifications:

Job Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Develop a military-affiliated recruitment plan;

  • Oversee and manage recruitment activities of the military recruiter;

  • Collaborate with the Office of Admissions and Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to manage all issues related to military student success at UA Little Rock;

  • Manage office budget and programs;

  • Work closely with the VA Certifying Officer in interpreting policy and ensuring compliance with VA programs;

  • Provide direct advice to students on a range of issues including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, career plans, accessibility, community standards, etc, in order to assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions;

  • Supervise office staff and work-study students;

  • Collaborate with the Office of Orientation and Transitions to implement a military student orientation as well as military focused Welcome Week activities;

  • Manage outreach programs and relationships with external community and university liaisons;

  • Serve as a liaison for military students with academic advisors and provides assistance in resolving problems in relation to military student issues;

  • Perform other duties as needed.

Required Education and/or Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree;

  • Previous military experience required with a minimum of four (4) years of service;

  • Outstanding record of providing customer service to both internal and external customers, especially with military installations;

  • Attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills;

  • Understanding of ADA as it pertains to veteran students;

  • Excellent interpersonal and program planning skills.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:


  • Master's Degree;

  • Six (6) to eight (8) years of military service;

  • Knowledge providing and maintaining important data pertaining to admissions, enrollment, special project activities, advising, etc.;

  • Willingness to participate in university committees and task forces as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Knowledge of computers and software applications (Microsoft, word processing, spreadsheet, internet, email);

  • Ability to design, execute and report research studies;

  • Knowledge of state, federal and university rules, regulations, and procedures;

  • Ability to supervise and monitor the development and adjustments of multiple staff schedules;

  • Knowledge of developmental academic advising.
