As atemp Laboratory Assistant for our PCR Departmentat IDEXX, you will be helping out with some of the tasks vital to the running of our West Sacramento Lab. We receive thousands of clinical samples (blood, urine, fecal samples) every day from Veterinarians, and we run tests on them to help identify what might be wrong with someone's pet. Every duty performed helps the vet one step closer to finding out if or why Fluffy or Spot might be sick.

In this role, responsibilities will vary:

• You'll be assisting with the diagnostic process by swirling samples, filling test tubes, and making solutions (don't worry, we'll train you!).




• You could also unbag, sort, tag, and move clinical samples around the laboratory.




• You'll help by restocking supplies, such as chemicals or slide trays.




• You could be helping to load analyzers with slides of samples.




• You'll be assisting with inventory counts and cleaning.

• You will be asked to help in out many ways - and your help is needed!

What You Will Need to Succeed:

• You can work an overnight position.




• You are reliable - attendance is an essential function of the position.




• You can read and interpret documents such as safety rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), material safety data sheets (MSDSs), operating and maintenance instructions, government rules, and technical procedures.




• You must have a demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task.




• You possess strong initiative and follow through with outstanding attention to detail.




• You are able to work independently and as a team contributor.




• You have demonstrated a high level of customer service.




• Able to meet the physical requirements that go with working in a lab - standing and sitting for extended periods of time, use of hands, fingers, and arms to handle tools and controls, occasional need to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift up to 25lb, and specific vision ability - close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

• This is a laboratory, so there is potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.

Schedule: This is a 3rd shift temp position, with hours similar to 11:30 pm - 8:00 am, Monday - Friday with a Saturday rotation, that is expected to be until late summer/early fall. There is a possibility of this being temp to hire.
