Summary: Stride is looking for a full-time Metadata Specialist to join the Product Management team and to work in collaboration with colleagues across Stride's Product Development team. The Metadata Specialist will focus on defining and maintaining a complex metadata taxonomy to support Stride's growing content library. Successful management of a content library enables curriculum authors and teachers to search and discover content for a variety of needs. This position must recognize that metadata is critical for facilitating digital scholarship. The Metadata Specialist must be willing to work collaboratively, interfacing with content experts, project managers, software developers, and systems and semantic architects, to help plan and execute projects.

  • Ability to learn the content management ecosystems quickly to build working knowledge and experience;

  • Create metadata documentation and training collateral that clearly and concisely communicates guidelines to internal curriculum authors;

  • Monitor the content library to ensure proper guidelines are being followed by curriculum authors and implement a metadata management governance structure to build a consistent tagging practice across curriculum production teams;

  • Define, track, and communicate metadata metrics that lead to higher understanding of Stride's content library, academic success, engagement, satisfaction, and business outcomes;

  • Document and understand teachers and curriculum authors' needs, and make sure the metadata products meet those needs; informed by regular conversations and reviews of how the metadata taxonomy is being used;

  • Work with the Stride Learning Hub product management team to ensure metadata taxonomy is aligned with the correct search algorithm and adaptive needs;

  • Analyze content to standard relationships to help identify gaps in our curriculum learning object repository;

  • Help identify opportunities to automate the metadata tagging process over time and to templatize the creation of metadata on learning objects.


Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.


Minimum Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree AND

  • Three (3) years of related library science or information technology experience

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience


Certificates and Licenses: None required.


Other Required Qualifications:



  • Demonstrates experience providing strong product execution and resourcefulness for complex early stage projects

  • Experience leading library science projects

  • Passionate and skilled in gathering and interpreting user perspective so that requirements and design reflect real needs. Experience working with users with a range of functional needs

  • Experience collaborating with internal and external technology partners as well as non-technical stakeholders

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with online collaboration tools such as O365, Google Docs, Aha, Trello, StoriesOnBoard, etc.

  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency.

  • Ability to pass required background check
