POSITION SUMMARY:


This job is responsible for manufacturing products using instruments and biochemical processes. The incumbent will utilize techniques such as size exclusion chromatography purification/analysis, oligonucleotide deprotection/conjugation, gel filtration, centrifugation, spectrophotometry, reconstitution, and various assays.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Purify protein solutions via FPLC or spin column gel filtration to prepare conjugation/coating solutions or remove free-tag

  • Utilize HPLC to perform size exclusion chromatography analysis on customer samples in order to report percentages of monomer, aggregation, and free-tag

  • Manufacture products by deprotecting oligonucleotide solutions utilizing various chemistries


    • Conjugate oligonucleotide solutions to various proteins


  • Conjugate antibodies with Biotin or SULFO-TAG NHS-Ester in order to produce detection/capture antibodies for use in catalog and custom kits



  • Quantify protein concentrations utilizing techniques such as spectrophotometry or BCA Assay




  • Run assays to quantify biotin/protein ratios or glycerol content in solution




  • Manufacture customer contract materials with specialized procedure and handling requirements




  • Assist the Supervisor in training of new manufacturing personnel




  • Review production records to ensure technicial accuracy and compliance with GDP




  • Maintain preventative maintanence schedules for lab equipment




  • Provide input and execute tasks to improve routine manufacturing processes that provide for better quality and quantity of products




  • Update Standard Operating Procedures or Batch Records as needed




  • Participate in technicial transfer of new processes into the Biochemical Manufacturing team by providing feedback on draft documents and shadowing new production processes during development.



  • Participation in general laboratory maintenance including maintaining laboratory cleanliness, supplies and equipment




    • Prepare, maintain and report raw material or reagent inventories.

    • Participate in year-end physical inventory


  • Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements



EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Engineering or related field; or an Associate's degree with equivalent applicable work experience.

  • Two years experience in a manufacturing role utilizing biochemistry techniques



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • A demonstrated aptitude for learning and adhering to standard laboratory techniques and safety precautions

  • Thorough knowledge of scientific fundamentals and analytical background

  • Demonstrate a mechanical aptitude including equipment troubleshooting

  • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills


    • Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of laboratory data


  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite



  • Ability to follow laboratory safety instructions; ability to use protective equipment.




  • Ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding manufacturing environment with changing priorities




  • Knowledge of cGMP and/or ISO certification highly preferred




  • Ability to learn additional software applications/tools, as required




  • Knowledge of JDE is highly preferred




  • Knowledge of FPLC or HPLC highly preferred




  • Knowledge of Akta systems highly preferred





PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



  • This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and frequent lifting up to 25 lbs.

  • Up to 80% of the day may be spent at a lab bench and/or in the cleanroom
