Summary of Job Duties:

The Academic IT Director co-reports to the Chief Information Officer and Dean of the college and is primarily responsible for overseeing all college technical systems, data systems, and college applications in addition to their administrations. This position is responsible for the technical guidance and documentation of policies, procedures, and standards set forth by the university and the college. This position is responsible for providing direct technology oversight and leadership to the college, departments, and additional ventures. This position assists the financial director(s) with technical procurement and planning. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.



Qualifications:

Required Education and or Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in the field of computer science, information technology, business, or related;

  • Three (3) years of experience in technical troubleshooting, assisting, and training;

  • Three (3) years of experience administering servers in small to medium-sized server environments.

Preferred Education and or Experience:


  • Master's degree in Computer, IT, or Technology;

  • Experience working in the higher education environment;

  • Experience working with technology allocation and technology budgets.

Job Duties and Responsibilities


  • Lead departmental operational and strategic planning, including fostering innovation, planning projects, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources;

  • Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT systems;

  • Manage financial aspects of the IT department, including purchasing, budgeting, and budget review;

  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives;

  • Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, and disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision;

  • Negotiate and administer vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements;

  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all IT systems, including servers, PC's, operating systems, hardware, software, and peripherals;

  • Oversee provision of end-user services, including help desk and technical support services;

  • Work with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology

  • implementations;

  • Direct research on potential technology solutions in support of procurement efforts;

  • Keep current with latest technologies;

  • Approve and oversee projects;

  • Practice asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment.Manage IT staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions;

  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization's executives, department heads, and end-users regarding pertinent IT activities.
