Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Proposal Marketing Writer works with the Sales team and multiple business areas to create compelling responses to requests for proposals (RFPs) that position Capital BlueCross as the carrier of choice for new business opportunities and renewals. This person demonstrates strong writing and project management skills, a keen understanding of the health insurance market and our products and services, and is able to work collaboratively with others on the RFP team, Sales, and business units across the company to develop quality responses. This person also coordinates efforts to respond to requests for information (RFIs) and surveys from external stakeholders, including customers, producers, consortiums, and the BlueCross BlueShield Association. Performs other duties as requested.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate the process for developing responses to RFPs, RFIs, and surveys that are timely, accurate, and strategic, and amplify the company’s value proposition. This includes:  


  • Setting internal deadlines for business units supporting the response effort and ensuring those deadlines are met.


  • Collaborating with subject matter experts (SMEs) across the company to obtain information required to submit comprehensive RFP and RFI responses.


  • Researching and formatting information supplied by SMEs.


  • Drafting and editing compelling responses (including persuasive executive summaries and cover letters), obtaining approval from Sales and upper-level management, and finalizing documents for submission.


  • Supporting Sales to develop proposals that proactively pitch Capital BlueCross coverage to prospective groups that have not submitted an RFP.


  • Collaborating within Marketing and with Sales to support RFP follow-up questions and finalist presentations.


Supporting efforts to continually enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the RFP process as we strive to win and retain business.  

Perform other duties as requested to support Enterprise Marketing and the company, which may include writing content for various initiatives and across channels and supporting the departments production of high-profile meetings (such as the Consumer Advisory Council, Business Insights, and employee town halls) and select projects, campaigns, committees, and initiatives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

  • Minimum of two to three years of progressive experience in communications.

Education, Certification, and Licenses:

  • Bachelor’s degree (degree in communications, journalism, or English is preferred, but not required).

Leadership:

Self-confident leader with the ability to:


  • Manage those involved in the RFP/RFI process.


  • Foster collaboration among multiple business units to keep RFPs, RFIs, and surveys on deadline. 


  • Quickly and effectively problem solve unexpected issues.


  • Make recommendations to staff-level and management positions.


Knowledge:


  • Persuasive writing


  • Grammar (AP Style is preferred, but not required)


  • Communication methods (e.g., print, digital, social)


  • Healthcare industry (this is a plus, but not required)


Skills:


  • Strong writing, editing, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) among executives, managers, and colleagues to resolve issues, differences of opinion, and to obtain accurate information to respond to customer requests.


  • Strong project management skills. Ability to develop, prioritize, execute, coordinate, manage, and guide implementation of major projects.


  • A flexible, creative, and strategic thinker who is able to work quickly and handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously under deadline pressure.


  • Willingness to take on a variety of tasks to support others in the Enterprise Marketing department.


  • Strong PC skills, particularly in using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.


  • Experience writing proposals is a plus (not required).


Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced environment that requires flexibility and adaptability, ability to perform job assignments independently, and ability to adapt to a changing work environment, workload requirements, and reporting relationships.

Physical Demands:


  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands and fingers, talk, hear, and see.

  • The employee must be able to work more than 40 hours per week.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.
