This position is responsible for assisting external customers in the exchange of all Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), both internal and external. The Sr. EDI Analyst acts as a liaison between Delta IT and the internal business during enterprise-wide initiatives related to the exchange of electronic data interfaces for enrollment. The Sr. EDI Analyst also assigns and maintains all complex conversions, performs data mining on enterprise wide issues, and supports enterprise wide products initiatives. This person is the primary requirements and functionality owner of Enrollment Application, and performs all external product change analysis and regression testing.

How you will make an impact:


  • Assesses new tools and/or product releases that have a direct impact on the Electronic Enrollment Process.

  • Acts as a primary point of contact for EEP enhancements. Enhancements can include user and functional requirement adds/changes/deletions and their impact on Delta Dental Standards (i.e. Enterprise Standard File Layout), as well as, enhancements to tool/programs (i.e. EEP Console, Metavance).

  • Assists external customers in implementation of electronic eligibility transactions.

  • Creates and enhances reformat conversion programs, data mapping routines and/ or work with IT Development, when required, by providing business/processing requirements, test cases, test data, etc.

  • Acts in a primary support role for new product deployment where there is an EDI impact, including attending and participating in conference calls, requirements-gathering meetings and other related tasks.

  • Assists internal staff with the new group implementation process by attending finalist presentations, implementation meetings, RFP Support, work plan meetings, etc.

  • Assists in providing training and development for EDI Analysts, as requested.

  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

What we look for:


  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent education, training or experience.

  • A minimum of 5 years related experience.

  • Expert in HIPAA 834 transaction.

  • Expert in Xquery Development (XML).

  • Knowledge of HIPAA transactions and other Insurance industry standard.

  • Ability to create structure charts/pseudo code.

  • Programming background preferred.

  • Project Management experience preferred.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and process management skills.

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to be detail-oriented, flexible and creative.

  • Strong organizational/time management and multi-tasking abilities.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, follow-up on commitments on a timely basis, adhere to deadlines, and be a strong team player.

  • Knowledge and experience with ANSI standards, specifically the 834 enrollment transaction from both a business rule (validation) perspective, as well as a processing (translation) perspective.
