The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Laboratory Technician, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:


  • Collaborating with engineers to assist in research and development of new products and processes.

  • Ensuring safety and productivity through preparation and maintenance of equipment.

  • Thoroughly documenting and reporting test methods and results in both electronic and written format.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:


  • High school diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • One (1) year combined laboratory, manufacturing/production, and/or pilot plant experience within a private, public, government, or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:


  • Associates/Two Year Technical degree or higher from an accredited institution in a private, public, government or military environment

  • Two or more semesters of college-level computer programming language courses and electrical engineering courses, or demonstrated equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated experience with diagnostics, repair, and calibration of custom laboratory equipment

  • Software development experience with National Instruments LabVIEW

  • Experience with basic statistical analysis

  • Hands-on, entry-level experience with analytical and/or physical testing

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications

  • Proficiency with design and maintenance of SQL databases and computer-aided design (CAD)

  • Experience with electrochemical systems, including fuel cells, flow batteries, electrolyzers, and components thereof

Travel:  May include up to 10% domestic
