Gensler's Digital Experience Design (DXD) practice is positioned at the intersection of physical and digital design and is focused on the creation of immersive experiences, hybrid workplace experiences, and connected urban experiences.Our teams are located across the globe and are comprised of seasoned multi-disciplinary generalist and specialists. As Lead Hardware Technologist, you will be working as part of a global, production-focused team to facilitate the delivery of immersive experiences for the built environment. With a hardware focus, you bridge the gap between the digital and physical worlds, working with our design teams and production partners to guide the realization of our designs.

You are always growing your expertise around all types of technology, both hardware and software, and understand how they work together as a system to deliver a cohesive experience. You enjoy working with and guiding diverse teams, coordinating between AV integrators, specialty fabricators, lighting designers, sound designers, GCs and others to ensure that technology is being seamlessly integrated into the built environment. Your attention to detail and understanding of feasibility and when designs break the laws of physics drives your excitement as you do shop reviews, site visits, facilitate prototypes, and review detailed technical documentation ensuring that the system being built matches the experiential design intent. You understand the deep relationship between hardware and software and can specify and configure hardware solutions that meet the performance requirements of our software. You have experience delivering permanent installations that are designed to run with minimal intervention. Building relationships with manufacturers and vendors lets you showcase the latest emerging commercial technologies and ensures that we have the best partners for our projects. What You Will Do



  • Work closely with a Lead Software Technologist and Production Manager to:



    • Shepherd our projects from design through successful implementation


    • Properly scope projects in terms of budget, staffing, process and timeline


    • Determine the appropriate partners for the specific needs of the project


    • Oversee Installation and transition projects to our support and maintenance team




  • Facilitate prototypes, show review, site visits, and provide detailed feedback


  • Coordinate between our software development teams and our AV and IT partners to ensure that the hardware platform matches the software requirements


  • Review technical drawings from AV Integrators, fabricators, lighting designers, architects, etc.


  • Specify and configure media players and other playback hardware; both on-prem and cloud-based solutions


  • Design and support video routing and processing hardware solutions, including Lightware and Datapath


  • Design and support network-based video solutions including, AVoIP, SDI and NDI


  • Design and support networked-based audio solutions, including Dante and QSC


  • Develop and implement technology test plans and organize and oversee commissioning of hardware


Your Qualifications


  • Minimum 12 years' experience


  • Familiarity with project management software such as Teams, Asana, Microsoft Project, Smartsheets, etc.


  • Experience managing mockups and reviews for multi-organization reviews


  • Ability to present technology solutions to non-technical audience


  • Comfort in a workshop environment using basic woodworking tools to build mockups


  • Familiarity with projection, LED, LCD, dynamic lighting, multi-channel audio systems, supervisory control systems and other commercial AV hardware, and how they connect together


  • Experience reading, commenting on 2D/3D Architectural and Technical drawings in AutoCAD and Bluebeam for a variety of technical systems design needs.


  • Basic markup and sketching in one or more of AutoCAD / 3ds Max / Rhino / Sketchup


  • Experience with large-scale and complex indoor/outdoor LED displays


  • Experience working with software engineering teams to support the development of large-scale and complex software systems


  • Experience designing systems that enable ease of management and operations by both end-user and by a remote technical team


  • Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budgets


  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn quickly and understand diverse technologies and techniques


  • Excitement and comfort working with a small team creating processes and infrastructure that allows for rapid growth.
