***This is a Per Diem, night shift (overnight) position.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Behavioral Health Technician at Hackensack MeridianHealth includes:

    Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration for planned patient care from ER admission through ER discharge. Interact with identified patients, based on physical, psychosocial, education, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the patient's age. Document in the patient's record as needed.
  • Interact with identified patients to maintain a safe environment through verbal skills and, when needed, through physical measures, which may include forms of restraint. Responds to all potential situations of patient, family, and visitor conflict, both emergent and non-emergent.

  • Coordination and ongoing communication with security staff, nursing staff, medical staff and mental health staff to provide safe patient care and to receive instructions on which patients need assistance.

  • Assist identified patients with Average Daily Living Skills, including dressing/undressing, and with patient engagement with reading material, television, food, and other appropriate means for helping patients remain calm. This includes observing patient behavior, listening to patient concerns, and documentation of interactions with patients in the electronic medical record

  • Reports all untoward observations and changes in patient condition to the RN.

Qualifications


  • High School Diploma Required, Associate's Degree preferred.

  • BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association required

  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.
