PURPOSE

In the role of MEMS Packaging Process Engineer you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of various interconnect and electronics packaging type processes used to manufacture MEMS-based products used in advanced memory and SOC probecards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Design and develop various assembly and packaging methods for MEMS based probe products.

  • Engineering ownership for sustaining, improving, and unit process developing (in such areas as pick and place, die attach, solder reflow, die bonding, dispensing.

  • Drive the ramp and scale-up of new microfabrication and micro assembly processes from prototype to high volume manufacturing in our state-of-the-art MEMS fabrication facility in Livermore, CA.

  • Drive the planning and Equipment Facilities requirements to procure, install, qualify manufacturing equipment.

  • Comfortable working in a cross-functional team setting up the equipment requirements with different process module owners, Facilities and EH&S assuring tools meet all health and safety standards.

  • Characterize various interconnection materials and methods for use in new applications.

  • Assess the manufacturability of new unit processes and process flows.

  • Support the specification, evaluation, and qualification of fabrication equipment to improve process capabilities.

  • Perform daily analysis of data from production and engineering process runs, qualifying changes or additions to manufacturing toolsets and process flows and designing and executing engineering experiments to either resolve process excursions or to drive process performance improvements.

  • Managing the activities of one or more process technicians.

  • Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) and continuous improvement methodologies to ensure manufacturing processes remain both predictable and capable at the lowest possible operating cost.

  • Engage and lead equipment vendors to improve tool performance and ensure established manufacturing targets for equipment utilization and uptime are met or exceeded.

  • Engage and lead material vendors to ensure proper procurement specifications and incoming quality assurance metrics are established and consistently met for key process direct and indirect materials.

  • Work closely with peers in Research and Development to either utilize existing processes and/or equipment or develop new processes and/or equipment to meet requirements driven by new products and technology roadmaps.

  • Own training and implementation of new processes and/or equipment to HVM operations.



EDUCATION, EXPERIENCEAND SKILLSREQUIRED


  • B.S., M.S., in Material Science, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, related to MEMS, microfabrication, or semiconductor packaging.

  • 5-10 years of progressive experience as Manufacturing Process Engineer, Equipment Engineering, Product Engineer, or related occupations.

  • Experience with advanced electronic or MEMS packaging desired. Experience in any of the following preferred: surface mount technologies (SMT), thermal reflow, flip-chip, pick-n-place (PnP) assembly, molding, die attach, tab bonding, solder attach, automated adhesive dispensing.

  • Experience is equipment procurement, installation (new and existing equipment moves), qualification, and ramp into HVM.

  • Experience in planning existing and new tools facilities and equipment requirements to successfully install and ramp into HVM.

  • Equipment engineering experience, dealing with the planning and installation of tool moves. Working with facilities team & EH&S to define equipment requirements (Space, Power, Waste, Gases), and health and safety requirements

  • A disciplined use of statistical methods to establish robust process controls and healthy process capabilities, analyze process yield, and for experimental design and analysis.

  • Solid leadership of cross-functional projects will be required to successfully solve complex unit process and/or integration challenges.

  • Work experience with the development of new process technology and capabilities and successful transfer from pilot to high-volume capability.

  • Experience in use of Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiments; quality and continuous improvement methodologies such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root-cause Analysis (RCA), and/or Lean Manufacturing, 5's, 8D, JMP and AutoCad software's.
