Human Capital Management Engineering is bringing a new HCM experience to Best Buy's workforce enabling Best Buy to achieve its goal to be the best place to work by 2025. The team is focused on modernizing the way Best Buy's workforce learns new skills and engages with data for workforce reporting and analytics. Working closely with our internal and external product partners, our team will provide greater opportunity for career development to our workforce and deliver tools promoting greater inclusion and diversity amongst our workers and customers from their first touchpoint with Best Buy to their last day.

What you will do as an Engineering Manager, HCM Data & Analytics:


  • Build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders across a range of HCM workstreams and Best Buy's Enterprise Data Platform.

  • Leverage your deep understanding of Best Buy's HCM data model to deliver solutions that enable operational and analytical reporting.

  • Lead solution crafting, perform architecture reviews and ensure solutions comply with Best Buy Enterprise Risk & Compliance guidance. Your solutions will extract, load, transform and make available data from Best Buy's HCM platform and expose it for consumption to a variety of systems via modern integration technologies.

  • Actively plan delivery aligned to quarterly objectives using agile software development practices.

  • Ensure your team's services, and integration architectures are fully documented and that the documentation is maintained.

  • Provide production support for your application and services

  • Recruit and build a team of 3-5 highly skilled, collaborative, and energetic software and data engineers.

  • Foster the career development of your direct reports via regular one-on-one's

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of software development experience and a Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or related field OR 5+ years of experience without a Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-6 years of relevant professional experience AND a bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or related field

  • Experience with integration to Workday HCM (including Workday Prism)

  • Experience leading agile delivery teams of 3-5 engineers working on ETL/ELT data pipelines.

  • Experience working with both file-based and record-based PGP-encrypted data

  • 3+ years developing RESTful and SOAP services, microservices and serverless functions with Java and related frameworks in GCP or AWS

  • 3+ years developing with relational and non-relational databases (especially Oracle, SQLServer, Cassandra, CockroachDB)

  • 3+ years developing with cloud-based infrastructure and object storage (especially GCS and S3)

  • 2+ years with Solution Architecture or Technical Architecture experience

  • 2+ years developing with object store technologies: Google Cloud Storage and Amazon Web Services S3
