Type: Part-Time
Location: Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description:

Now Hiring for 2021 Season!

City Experiences is seeking friendly, upbeat, talented Actor/Deckhands for City Cruises Boston Harbor speed boat thrill ride Codzilla.

About Us:

City Experiences’ passion is to provide amazing experiences on land and water. Our 40-year success through organic growth and acquisitions has resulted in a portfolio of over 25+ brands that welcome upwards of 30 million guests/riders annually. If you’re an enthusiastic team player who thrives in an environment where communication, creativity, and cooperation are encouraged, this may just be the opportunity for you.

About the Opportunity:

We are currently seeking friendly, upbeat, talented people to work seasonally as Actor/Deckhands on board our "CODZILLA" speed boat ride, entertaining passengers in a fun and upbeat manner, and providing excellent customer service. The successful Actor/Deckhand is friendly, courteous, has exceptional customer service skills, enjoys engaging with the public in an interactive manner, and is able to learn a basic script that includes both historical information and a narrative theme. If you like interacting with people from all over the world and have a friendly, outgoing personality, and an interest in performing in theatre (or improv), then this may be the position for you!

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Learn the basic script for the narration and prepare your own "verbalization" of the 45-minute ride through the Boston Harbor. (Actor/Deckhands are provided with a basic script, but some leeway is given to inject your own personality and company-approved supplemental material.)

  • Deliver an engaging and informative experience on the vessel, using a wireless mic, in front of the passengers. (Much of the 45 minutes consists of fast-moving "stunts" and maneuvers on the vessel. About 15 to 20 minutes of narration is included in the experience.)

  • Greet and interact with passengers in a friendly, courteous manner. The Actor/Deckhand play the role of "congenial host," greeting guests with a smile, and bidding them farewell at the end of the cruise.

  • Responsible for cleaning all parts of the vessel, including between trips and at the end of each shift.

  • Learn and perform important maritime skills such as safely throwing and tying lines, emergency procedures, and more.

  • Take part in safety drills and work in cooperation with the Captain and crew of the vessel.

  • Arrive to work on time and punch in and out on the company's timeclock system.

  • Communicate clearly with other departments and personnel.

  • Additional job duties assigned

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Ability to learn and memorize information, and to deliver an engaging "story-like" tour.

  • Ability to express anecdotes in a clear and coherent delivery style and to engage with audience members/customers in a humorous yet family-friendly way.

  • Capacity to keep calm and maintain a pleasant demeanor in a busy, fast-paced work environment.

  • Tolerance for getting wet over the course of a typical shift. CODZILLA is a high-powered "splash boat" that travels at high speeds and truly "makes waves."

  • Ability to stay on your feet for lengthy periods of time

  • Theatre or improv experience can be helpful, but is not necessary. If you have an engaging personality and sense of humor, the narration skills can be learned and developed.

  • A commitment to being on time and delivering a consistently engaging, informative, and interactive tour.

  • Shifts are daytime. Availability on weekends is important; you MUST be able to work either Saturday or Sunday.

Please not that you must be available to work through at least Labor Day, and possibly through to mid-October.
