Beech Island, SC

Position Purpose:  To provide leadership to manage the day-to-day operations of the UCTAD Mill Operation as part of the Beech Island manufacturing site.

Key Customers: End users of products, site and sector management, converting operations team, tissue manufacturing team, planning, distribution, as well as technical services/engineering/reliability teams, business leaders in technology, marketing and manufacturing. 

Scope:  The UCTAD Product System Leader reports to the Mill Manager and is responsible for managing all day-to-day activities related to UCTAD mill to ensure system objectives are achieved in safety, quality, cost, reliability, customer service, environmental and employee relations. 

Qualifications/Education/Experience Requirements

This position requires knowledge and ability typically associated with an advanced degree, and the equivalent of 10 years of direct leadership experience. The successful candidate must have the ability to organize and plan, delegate, lead, develop team members through coaching/developing and performance improvement, motivate/effectively influence across all levels of the organization, and maintain effective control. This position also requires experience in mill operations including providing leadership to multiple functions (operations, maintenance and engineering); experience in assessing operational effectiveness; providing leadership in implementing change with hourly and salaried team members; and building leadership talent of a diverse workforce. Ideally, the successful candidate will have had prior experience with Lean Manufacturing or OPEX (Operational Excellence) initiatives and will be able to facilitate in the implementation of those initiatives in Beech Island/UCTAD.

  • Communicate appropriately with all customers and functions, conducting all communications and transactions with the utmost integrity and honesty so as to build an unimpeachable business reputation and working relations.

  • Prepare and implement unit budgets and schedules.  Ensure compliance with corporate policies and instructions regarding capital and expense authorizations and control.  Identify cost savings opportunities and manage expense spending to unit budget limits.

  • Supports executing Sector product and business portfolio initiatives.

  • Must be able to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Develop and maintain a positive work atmosphere that supports the cultural changes at Beech Island and fosters employee engagement, involvement and personal accountability.

  • Establish and maintain an optimum organization driving continuous improvement.  Build systemic, standard processes with OPEX/Lean capability to perform and improve work systems that drive lowest total delivered cost.

  • Maintain a positive work climate and working conditions; e.g., safety, housekeeping, employee relations.
