Job Description:

Moffatt & Nichol is actively searching for a Structural Engineer/Project Manager with waterfront/marine focus to join our Long Beach, CA office. The successful candidate will work on the planning, engineering analysis, and studies, design, and provide A-E construction services for waterfront structures and projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

The Structural Engineer will work with other senior staff and the project design team to:


  • Plan, analyze, and design waterfront structures such as:

    • Large marine terminals

    • Dry docks and caissons

    • Offshore wind components and pier facilities

    • Vessel mooring and berthing structures

    • Piers, wharves, bulkheads, and marinas

    • Breakwaters and shore protection structures



  • Assist with the management and execution of complex waterfront infrastructure design projects

  • Oversee design process and guide team of multidisciplinary engineers

  • Ensure project study and design deliverables and maintain project schedule

  • Review and approve all deliverables prior to submission to the client; review and resolve client's comments as they relate to the scope of work and services

  • Provide A-E post construction award services (PCAS) for U.S. Navy construction projects

  • Attend on-site client meetings

  • Perform site investigations, construction observation, and provide field consultation

  • Mentor young engineers

  • Create and maintain client relationships

  • Act as the primary interface between M&N, clients, and sub-consultants

  • Prepare and submit proposals to clients

  • Assist in business development

  • Manage sub-consultants

Qualifications:


  • Master's (preferred) or Bachelor's degree (required) in Structural Engineering or in Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis

  • Professional Engineer license

  • Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers (ACOPNE) certification in the Port Engineering category preferred

  • Possess 8-12+ years of combined experience in engineering design and project management

  • Proven success designing and managing design of a wide range of waterfront structural projects

  • Experience with understanding and developing detailed construction contract documents

  • Field experience to support waterfront design and construction projects preferred

  • NAVFAC waterfront project experience preferred

  • Willingness and availability to travel overnight both domestically and internationally

  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post-offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

  • Due to client requirements, the selected candidate must show proof of U.S. citizenship. A federal background check will be conducted

Physical requirements:

Majority of work is office based. Site visits will be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
