Job Title: Boiler Operator


Job Summary:


EMCOR Government Services has an immediate need for a Boiler Operator in Fort Hood, TX. The Boiler Operator monitors all the major mechanical systems of the hospital through the use of various monitoring systems. The Boiler Operator is responsible to respond during fire alarm situations and assists the Fort Hood Fire Department. This is a position that requires clear and effective communication skills plus the operational understanding of numerous mechanical systems to include but not limited to building HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems. Previous experience in a hospital environment is a plus.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Represents EMCOR for all hospital facility emergencies until relieved by EMCOR Management personnel. Contacts EMCOR management with status of all facility emergencies or unusual events (examples: fire alarms, critical equipment shutdowns and electric power outages). Coordinates emergency interactions with designated Facilities Management Department representative. Maintain alert and responsive at all times.

  • Monitors the Fort Hood Medical Center and Central Utility Plant mechanical systems through the use of the Building Monitoring System (BMS) within the control room (01-015). This includes an active search of system information and functionality during the assigned shift. Clearly record all unusual events and pertinent information in the shift log book. A complete understanding of the repercussions of inoperable critical equipment is prudent.

  • Communicates with technicians to investigate and repair issues with the facility equipment. Completes room rounding sheets for the equipment operational status on a daily schedule.

  • Monitors the Emergency Electrical System that provide electricity throughout the hospital and Central Plant.

  • Monitors the automated lighting systems and makes corrections as required.

  • Monitors the Fire Alarm Panel and assists the Fire Command Center during fire alarms and drills.

  • Monitors the temperatures of areas in the hospital to ensure the temperatures are within the established standards and communicates with applicable personnel to investigate and correct any operational issues. Become familiar with the established Preventative Maintenance (PM) procedures and participate in the PM program.

  • Maintains an effective daily log book of all shift activities. Ensures work requests are submitted for any equipment or system deficiencies.

  • Works with the Stationary Engineers in the Central Utilities Plant (CUP) to ensure that all hospital support mechanical systems are operational.

  • Files all daily mechanical room rounding sheets for review by the Project Manager.

  • Read, understand, and sign off on weekly Tool Box safety literature. Ensure completion of all regulatory compliance training.

  • Obtain OSHA 10 General Industry Safety and Health certification and Underground Storage Tank Class 'C' operator training.

  • Ability to work extended hours or weekend overtime as needed.


Qualifications:




    • A minimum ofthree (3) years' experience with operational understanding of numerous mechanical systems to include but not limited to building HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems and general repairs.

    • Previous experience in a hospital environment is a plus.

    • Must have clear and effective communication skills.

    • Must be able to pass and maintain a Department of Defense background investigation.

    • Must have a current ASOPE certification.

    • Must complete an OSHA 10 General Safety and Health training class (supplied by EMCOR)

    • Must have Underground Storage Tank Class 'C' operator training.

    The employee must receive medical shots as required by the Fort Hood Medical Center. The annual flu shot and annual TB testing are mandatory, but additional shots may be required as related to the employee's position.
