Job Description:


Purpose of the Position



 



This position is responsible for coordinating and assisting with Custom Culinary® regulatory compliance  and quality systems activities, including providing support, both internally within Custom Culinary® and externally with our customers, and strategic and tactical activities across multiple technical areas to support the overall business strategy of the organization. It includes KPI reporting and management of QS and Regulatory SharePoint sites and the QS Manual.



 



Major Duties & Responsibilities



 




  • Is well versed in FDA and USDA labeling procedures and nuances. Has familiarization with regulations in international countries and is able to seek out information as needed.


  • Perform key Regulatory Dept. job functions (ex. label reviews, ingredient statement creation and review, SDS, range formulas, nutritional information, COO information, etc.) and regularly communicates with R&D, sales & marketing, and customers.


  • Maintain up-to-date regulatory documentation and information for our customers in a variety of online systems (ex. TraceGains, FoodLogiQ, SafetyChain, etc.)


  • Familiarization with Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes and USMCA rules. 


  • Coordinate maintenance of Custom Culinary® QS Manual including assuring all procedures, work instructions and forms remain current.


  • Manage Q KPI Performance Reporting to drive continuous improvement.


    • Coordinate data entry and reporting

    • Create actionable charts, graphs, etc.

    • Comply with Global reporting requirements

    • Manage database, consolidate, analyze and report KPI data (ex. customer complaints, holds, non-conformances)



  • Drive continuous improvement within the Quality Systems and Operations organization by:


    • Managing QS projects


    • Leading FSQS improvement initiatives


    • Data analysis and interpretation


    • Scanning the industry for best practices, new research and emerging technology.


  • Identifying future process improvement opportunities for regulatory and


  • Coordinate quarterly mock trace and annual mock crisis exercises and review sessions


  • Be the QS/Regulatory subject matter expert (SME) and coordinator of Microsoft SharePoint sites, QS Team portal site, Regulatory document sites, etc.


    • Assist with creating and maintaining sites


    • Provide training to QS Team


  • Able to work independently and securely.


  • Assures all products manufactured and distributed meet Food Safety, Quality, and Legal requirements for both source and destination locations, and that all products are Authentic.


  • Other activities as directed by the Regulatory Compliance & Tech. Services Manager or VP of Quality Systems.

    • Gaining consensus agreement to content of QS documents (ex. WI’s, SOP’s, etc.)


    • Ability to work independently and develop programs and systems to accomplish tasks and responsibilities.


    • Ability to apply logic to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.


    • Ability to discern when an observed discrepancy or deficiency creates significant risk to the organization and should be escalated.


    • Desire to learn and ability to learn quickly and apply learnings to the work being done.


    • Ability to deal with emergent issues and determine when  to involve other QS resources and / or Plant Management


    • Understands Root Cause Corrective and Preventive Action process and can guide this process.


    • Can create and manage spreadsheets, presentations, and other electronic documents, including procedures and work instructions.


    • Interpretation of FDA and USDA labeling law as it applies to raw materials and finished goods.


    • Ensures all products manufactured and distributed meet food safety, quality and legal requirements for both source and destination locations.


     



    Knowledge and Experience:




    • Education:  B.S. in Food Science or related field from a 4-year institution. 


    • Experience:  3-5 years Food Regulatory and/or Quality Systems experience


    • Working knowledge of GFSI (ex. BRC) and FDA / USDA Regulations is a plus.


    • Working knowledge of FDA and USDA labeling regulations, including labeling claims and applications.


    • Working knowledge of USMCA and export regulations is a plus


    • Strong computer skills and expertise in use of Microsoft products (ex. Office) are essential.


    • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.


    • Demonstrated success meeting established deadlines.


    • Must be detail oriented and proficient at reviewing and editing documentation.


    • Customer oriented.


    • This position requires extensive technical and operational expertise. 


      • Ability to manage projects / drive continuous improvement.


      • Ability to create and interpret data



    • Ability to focus priorities and work under pressure with multiple deadlines.
