Job Description:
Purpose:
The primary responsibilities of this role are operational support and ability to navigate Transportation Management System (TMS) easily to provide support to field users and carriers. Specific tasks dedicated to the use of the Transportation Management System for outbound and inbound logistics operations, carrier selection, as well as identify and implement cost out and service improvements across the network.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review the Corporate Transportation Management System (TMS) for carrier selection on outbound and inbound shipments from multiple plant and warehouse locations across all business units.
Support shipping sites to ensure optimal transportation decisions are made and adherence to routing guides are in place.
Monitor service level requirements and equipment commitments with motor carriers while working with Supplier Development Manager.
Maximize cost reduction and service opportunities through leveraging total corporate volume with truckload, intermodal and less-than-truckload freight carriers.
Evaluate and implement possible savings and service improvements through use of new and /or improved carrier equipment, methods, and procedures such as dropped equipment programs, appointments, pooling, alternative transportation methods / modes or consolidation.
Develop and execute business improvement projects to reduce freight cost and improve transportation functions.
Negotiate carrier rates on spot shipments and one-off lanes.
Maintain TMS route guides, carriers, locations, instructions, and load notes.
Manage inbound and outbound integration errors between the ERP and TMS.
Preparation of data for the negotiation of carrier services, equipment, costs, contracts, classifications, and international regulatory requirements as requested by the Carrier Sourcing Manager.
Ensure carrier communication compliance via EDI and emailed updates.
Review transportation communication processes and develop system efficiencies.
Must possess organizational and time management skills as well as demonstrate attention to detail.
Computer skills including a moderate understanding of ERP and TMS applications (e.g., SAP, JDE, BluJay, etc.), systems and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks
Ability to collaborate and communicate with all levels of employees and management.
Ability to use technology to solve business problems.
