Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a supervising video producer and editor to oversee our evening breaking news coverage. The ideal candidate is an experienced video producer/editorwho welcomes the demands of breaking news, has sound news judgment and is an excellent collaborator across teams. Strong communication skills arerequiredalong withknowledgeofvideo SEO best practices.

The producer/editorwill oversee breaking news video coverage in the late afternoons and evenings, assigning stories to others and producing/editing their own stories.Responsibilities alsoincludesourcing and licensing video, editing quick-turnclipsto help readers understand unfolding stories and conceiving and editing scripted packages to explain ongoing issues.

The producer/editorwillcoordinatelive-streaming coverage during evening hours,alerting internal stakeholders to developing news, promoting events to users on- and off-platform and optimizing streams and clips for bothreal-timeand later viewing.

AsThePost expands its 24-hour news coverage, this producer/editorwill also serve as the video department'sprimaryliaison to the overnightvideo staffing in Asia and live news desks around the world.

Thisideal candidate has atleast fiveyearsofexperiencein a fast-paced newsroom environmentandthe ability to multitask and act as a player/coach. Fast, proficient editing skills on Adobe products are required. We are looking for an excellent collaborator who will work closely with colleagues across the newsroom.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.
