SUMMARY: Responsible for managing effective and efficient engineering operational practices, processes and procedures related to marine engineering.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and maintain performance and process standards, methods and controls to ensure work is being performed in compliance with company standards, as well as local, state, and/or federal guidelines and regulations. Analyze and assesses the performance of seagoing marine personnel and prepares and distributes analyses and other reports. Recommend and implement improvements, modifications or additions to work. Act as subject matter expert regarding marine engineering related services. Develop and perform related training and coaching directly or indirectly. Evaluate engineering officers' performance utilizing both simulator and practical onboard assessments. Evaluate engine resource management, command and safety culture while embarked on vessel. Provide written reports to leadership detailing the results of assessments.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in marine or mechanical engineering or a related field from an accredited college, university or maritime academy; or equivalent combination of post high school education and experience equal to ten (10) years.

EXPERIENCE: 5 - 8 years of related marine engineering experience, with 3 years as a Chief Engineer aboard a merchant marine vessel. Experience in teaching, training development and assessment utilizing full mission and task specific maritime simulators, is highly desirable.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word.

COMPETENCIES: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. Ability to train and direct the work of others. Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope. Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment. Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols, and procedures as they pertain to environmental health standards. Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of marine engineering. Able to successfully complete established simulator watchstanding assessments at the Highly Effective level. Ability to directly mentor, coach, train and/or supervise employees.

OTHER: Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) from the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Licensed as a marine engineer by the U.S. Coast Guard (preferred).

JOB SCOPE: Position impacts multiple business units/segments.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Position requires considerable travel away from home, up to 50% of work schedule . Works both inside an office environment and also outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.
