Job Description:

The Product Documentation Writer will be part of CCC Research & Development team and collaborate in both new product development and sustaining projects. This person will include participating in daily scrum meetings and project meetings and proactively connecting with development team members to understand the product design and operation and obtain relevant information.


The Product Documentation Writer will understand product documentation requirements, from R&D and Product Management and eventually other departments. This person will contribute to develop the Design Functional Specification, outlining the proposed product documentation structure and format. The Product Documentation Writer will prepare, review, revise documentation based on feedback by Product Owner and Product Manager and other peers in the development team. The Product Documentation Writer will assist in planning, scheduling, and tracking documentation work to meet product release dates. He/she will create product release newsletters to keep internal and external customers informed of new product releases.


The Product Documentation Writer will also be responsible to maintain through lifecycle both new and legacy product documentation, PDF help files, customer publications, internal documentation. This person will maintain and improve related processes, templates, and development tools. The Product Documentation Writer will be responsible to understand new technologies adopted in the industry for product documentation and propose and promote adoption for company solutions.


The Product Documentation Writer will manage the relationship with external contractors to fulfill the product documentation scope and translation in other languages. This will include the revision and approval of technical documentation developed by external contractors.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


Listed in order of relevance:


- Prepare, review, revise and maintain the product documentation (customer publications, internal documentation, dynamic PDF help files, newsletters) for internal and external customer use.


- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and style consistency of the technical documentation and/or associated PDF help files.


- Collaborate with R&D and Product Management teams to understand product requirements and specifications and final product operation and maintenance.


- Assist in planning, scheduling, and tracking documentation work to meet product release dates.


- Manage the relationship with external contractors for product documentation and revise and ultimately approve their product documentation writeups.


- Maintain and improve product documentation processes, templates, and development tools, considering new technologies adopted in the industry.


- Respond to change productively and handle other duties as required.


- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.


 


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE


- Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering with Major/Minor in Technical Communication or Bachelors’ Degree in Technical Communication with Major/Minor in Engineering, or related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.


- Five years’ experience with the Adobe FrameMaker, Microsoft Office, and other publication software tools required.


- Industry specific experience preferred:


            - Industrial Controls (hardware, control application and computer programs)


            - Turbomachinery


 


KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS


- Excellent ability to proactively communicate and work effectively within a team and with external suppliers.


- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.


- Excellent ability to focus, fast learner, and critical thinking.


- Advanced knowledge of Adobe Technical Communication Suite (primarily Adobe FrameMaker and Acrobat).


- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Teams).


- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint application preferred.


- Knowledge of Web Design (HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)).


- Knowledge of AutoCAD preferred.


- Ability to read, speak, and write in English required.
