The EMS Information Technology Services department has an outstanding new opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer. The Senior Systems Engineer will work as a member of the EMS Information Technology team and provides a broad range of hardware support services and technical expertise in server deployment, performance tuning, monitoring, configuration management, security best practice, and troubleshooting while maintaining the highest technical and professional standards.
The Senior Systems Engineer reports to the Technology Manager of EMS Information Technology. Strong working relationships within the EMS Information Technology department as well as other Information Technology departments are required. The position provides technical systems infrastructure support to clients, system operators and technical personnel of varying levels of expertise. The candidate will install, maintain, test and debug complex infrastructure hardware and software issues. They must be able to work independently within given boundaries and think critically. They will have thoughtfully been able to solve problems in the past with a host of innovative approaches. This experience will complement their decision making as a Subject Matter Expert so they are able to balance the competing demands of timeliness, complexity and intuitiveness.
Contribute to overall design and standardization efforts
Assist with Data Center capacity, configuration, and growth planning
Develop and document standards in the areas of configuration, provisioning, monitoring, maintenance, installation and compliance
Troubleshoot and resolve various issues with server, network and storage infrastructure.
Perform build, configuration and implementation of server infrastructure both virtual and physical.
Inform project direction with cross-discipline understanding of storage, networking and security technologies
Create and Organize data using spreadsheets and diagrams to effectively track, visualize and share complex project work
Provide thoughtful review and guidance of compute configurations and purchases
Take ownership of incidents and identify problem trends to improve the overall dependability of the environment and meet appropriate Service Level Agreements
Coordinate vendor activity and support as an escalation point for hardware and software issues as a technical lead
Proactively take advantage of external resources for training opportunities, cross-training, and education of internal teams and colleagues
Monitor relevant systems for availability and performance and respond to alerts to meet business objectives and service levels
Maintain and support production environments consisting of Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2012+ and VMWare
Install, cable, configure server infrastructure as part of a global team
Write scripts and procedures for daily operations
MCSE and/or VCP Certification
5-10 years of experience supporting an enterprise IT environment
5+ years of experience in Active Directory and general domain service administration and design
5+ years of enterprise Windows server 2008/2012 administration
5+ years supporting enterprise virtualization technologies (VMWare and Hyper-V)
Ability to remain agile in a fast-paced, ever-evolving IT department
IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), v3 experience preferred
Knowledge of network topologies
Knowledge of Microsoft clustering
Outstanding customer service skills with strong verbal and written communication
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
General knowledge of Data Center practices
Experienced problem solver with the ability to resolve complex issues while retaining a strong customer service focus and a positive attitude
Collaborative team player with the ability to multitask and produce clear documentation
Active Directory architecture and migration experience
Process-driven with a strong attention to detail
Knowledge of the Cisco UCS platform
Knowledge of SaaS environments
Experience with large server farms
Knowledge of Solarwinds and Spotlight monitoring tools helpful
Knowledge of Kanban systems
Scripting experience (SQL Query, Batch, WMI, VBScript, and/or Powershell) a plus #LI-KW1
