Location: Tysons Corner, Virginia
The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and updating content with a focus on learner engagement to address company and client needs. May require require occassional site visits to federal clients in the D.C Metro area.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Articulate and lead the instructional design process
• Design and develop content and learning experiences for a variety of audiences and delivery methods including instructor led and technology delivery
• Advise and consult with clients both internal and external, on best practices on adult learning and course development
• Develop design documents, storyboards, and other supporting documentation
• Manage Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop learning content
• Identify how changes in regulatory guidance, industry standards, and applicable external benchmarks impact course materials
• Update and revise products as necessary to maintain currency
• Work on large, complex projects with minimal supervision
• Prepare all stakeholders for course implementation
• Apply creativity and innovation to learning solutions
• Mentor and coach other instructional designers
• Contribute to a collaborative workplace culture
Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge and application of instructional design process, industry standards, and best practices
• Knowledge and application of adult learning theory
• Experience leading instructional design teams and projects
• Experience developing content for different modalities (e.g., instructor-led, elearning, virtual training, blended learning)
• Ability to successfully work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high quality in a fast-paced work environment
• Knowledge of Section 508 standards and accessible design best practices
• Strong technical and creative writing skills
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship building skills
• Creative problem-solving skills
• Organizational and planning skills to effectively manage, time, scope, and schedule
• Experience consulting with clients (internal or external) to understand needs and development goals
• Strong computer skills, including Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat
• Familiarity with Content Management Systems a plus, specifically Xyleme
• Familiarity with a Learning Management Systems a plus, specifically Cornerstone OnDemand
• Knowledge of web conferencing platform (such as Adobe Connect Pro) and digital authoring tools (such as Storyline, Captivate, Powtoon, Lectora, and other media development tools)
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s with specialization in instructional design, adult education, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience designing and developing participant-centered, applied learning solutions
• Experience using learning technology tools and applications
