About The Position

Manager, Application Services is responsible for the leadership, execution, & operations of the Applications Services Team for Digital Technology (DT) and Utility Operations Technology (UOT). Primary responsibilities include providing support for middleware technologies such as Weblogic, IIS, Angular and Websphere.Additional responsibilities include support of key infrastructure & applications for key systems and projects such as Autosys, SAS, Vista Plus and Dynatrace for predictive analysis. The Manager will collaborate with leaders across Digital and Ameren to ensure DT/UOT operations are continuously improving, optimized, evolving from reactive to proactive, leveraging automation to create efficiencies, and executing on strategic goals/objectives.

Key responsibilities include:


  • Inspire and drive continuous improvements and operational excellence capabilities across Operations and Support.

  • Drive standardization, automation, process improvement and system enhancements to deliver maximum value, quality and efficiencies to support business needs

  • Must be able to present to different audiences and adjust accordingly (business, technical and management) either structured presentations or ad-hoc.

  • Must be able to establish and maintain business relationships with individual contributors as well as management.

  • Evaluate programs, policies and procedures. Identify issues and develop alternative solutions which may include changes to programs, policies and procedures for area of responsibility.

  • Develop, analyze, and refine KPI's & metrics based on organizational, department, and business unit goals.

  • Use metrics based performance goals to direct and manage team success

  • Review and analyze trends to advise and develop recommendation to achieve and modify operational excellence goals and effectively report the health of Digital Operations through metrics.

  • Understand business priorities, rationalizes demand and communicate priorities to ensure teams are working on the highest value activities

  • Drive and influence operational excellence and continuous improvements across teams.

  • Lead proactive problem-solving efforts on core DTO services and key projects to improve quality, reduce cost and eliminate waste.

  • Leverage machine learning and artificial intelligence for application performance monitoring utilizing tools such as Dynatrace to proactively identify potential service impacts and target technologies causing performance issues to ensure the right resources are engaged

  • Help identify opportunities to drive monitoring and automation activities into the command center and transfer the knowledge & tools to drive positive first contact resolution and reduce escalations to operation teams

  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and help to implement automation and self-healing scripts and processes to minimize impact and timeframe of outages

  • Drive efficiencies to key critical customer facing systems in external data centers and in the cloud to help drive the efficient restoration of systems and avoid service degradation or impact

  • Stay current and educated on middleware systems such as Angular, Websphere, IIS, Weblogic and other technologies to ensure they are kept current and secure on supported versions

  • Assess training needs and develop associated training plans and programs for teams around necessary skillsets

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information System, Business Administration, or equivalent computer related degree from an accredited college or university required. Master's degree preferred.

  • Five or more years of related IT experience required with extensive background in one or more of the following IT disciplines: Operations, Infrastructure, Security, Service Management, Project Management

  • Three or more years of supervisory and high-level team/project leadership required. Strong management and effective leadership experience.

  • Detailed knowledge of application development methodologies (e.g., Agile, DevOps, Continuous Integration, Testing and Deployment)

  • Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities; a strategic thinker.

  • Exceptional ability to lead change and drive operational excellence, removes barriers, acts with a sense of urgency, and leads by example.

  • Proven track record of delivering complex IT services in a diverse environment.

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with ServiceNow and other IT management tools

  • Strong facilitation skills as well as the ability to work with team members, providing assistance and guidance as needed.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively both with technical personnel and senior leaders.
