Kleinfelder is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join us in our Redmond (Seattle) WA office.

You will have an opportunity to work on a wide variety of public- and private-sector projects, including high profile projects in Western Washington and across the nation. As a Geotechnical Engineer with Kleinfelder, you will play a key role in projects from the project identification and proposal planning stage through construction. We are specifically looking for someone with strong analytical and communication skills in areas including:


  • Soil and rock classification;

  • Shallow and deep foundation design;

  • Geotechnical and seismic hazard assessment, including liquefaction evaluation;

  • Slope stability analysis;

  • Group improvement techniques;

  • Retaining wall design;

  • Pavement design;

  • Scope and proposal development;

  • Report preparation;

  • Client and project team coordination; and,

  • Project team collaboration.


The ideal candidate will:

  • Have at least five years of geotechnical engineering experience in Western Washington;

  • Have experience working on project sites and coordinating field staff under the guidance of senior engineers/technical staff.

  • Possess a Washington PE license or have the ability to obtain within six months;

  • Have intermediate knowledge of geotechnical engineering software (gINT, LPILE, APILE, Slope/W), Word, Excel, and Powerpoint preferred.

  • Numerical modeling experience using PLAXIS and FLAC is a plus.

  • Possess strong initiative and enjoy problem solving;

  • Enjoy working in a team environment;

  • Have ability to perform and develop geotechnical scopes for field tasks (technical and non-technical).

  • Organize and safely manage geotechnical field explorations.

  • Prepare geotechnical reports and calculations.

  • Manage junior staff performing construction observations.

  • Perform construction observations (as needed) on complex and/or critical geotechnical items during site development.

  • Ability and desire to travel to project sites throughout WA and interact with field staff and construction personnel.

  • Ability to work independently or with a team in a multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Ability to work with civil designers to incorporate geotechnical recommendations into site development plans.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Motivation to learn and achieve continuous improvement in a team environment.

  • Have a can-do attitude and problem-solving mindset is essential.


MS in Civil Engineering is required (Geotechnical emphasis). EIT is required.
