Information Security is frequently in the headlines, and often those headlines highlight cases where information security controls failed. Would you like to play a key role in preventing Northern Trust from being in these types of headlines?

As the Technology Risk Senior Consultant, you will play a key role in Northern Trust's first line of defense for managing cyber and information security risk by helping us maintain an effective control environment. You will be responsible for overseeing the execution of risk management processes for our cyber and information security controls. This includes performing risk assessments, control testing, and using key performance indicators and other data analytics to identify potential weaknesses in our cyber and information security controls. The role part of the Technology Risk & Control function and is matrixed to the Chief Information Security Officer's organization.

Your Major Duties

•Work closely with key stakeholders to identify and prioritize technology risk management areas for focus.

•Drive ownership and accountability for cyber and information security controls within specific technology group(s) by identifying control owners and/or control operators and ensuring specific controls are adequately documented by the first line.

•Assist in defining requirements and guidelines for controls.

•Monitor and assess effectiveness of control implementation within the first line, through a variety of processes including self-assessments, testing, and monitoring key performance indicators.

•Perform targeted risk assessments to identify new or emerging threats

•Identify key performance indicators for cyber and information security controls, works with key stakeholders to agree thresholds that align with appropriate risk tolerance/appetites definitions, and proactively monitors for potential control concerns.

•Maintain a detailed risk register reflecting control gaps identified through processes noted above, monitors resolution, and escalates concerns as appropriate to key stakeholders.

•Provide periodic and clear reporting to highlight areas for concern, emerging risk or control patterns, etc., to key stakeholders.

•Define and deliver an awareness and training agenda to promote a culture of effective controls.

•Identify and drive improvement in first line of defense technology risk management processes, practices, frameworks and tools.

Your Knowledge and Skills

•You have an in-depth understanding of information security, IT audit and/or IT risk management principles.

•You have a good understanding of assessments of IT related processes such as information security, system development and change management, computer operations and data protection.

•Strong collaboration abilities across the 3 lines of defense.

•You can demonstrate the ability to work well in both an individual contributor and team capacity.

•You can demonstrate consultative and advisory mindset and critical thinking acumen.

•You have strong written and verbal communication skills. You can prepare clearly written, organized documents, reports and communications that demonstrate proper justification and support for any conclusions and assessment results and contain correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.

•You are eager to learn and apply new concepts. Risk Management is ever-changing and your enthusiasm and desire to learn is key!

•You can interact in a professional manner and develop relationships with individuals and teams at any level in Northern Trust or third party service provider, including experience interfacing with executive management.





•You have at least four, typically six or more, years of IT audit or IT risk management experience, or similar experience with transferable skills.

•You have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or a related discipline.
