Job Description Summary

We will shortly have an exciting new opening for a senior producer at L.A. Times Studios, a video production brand owned by Nant Media Holdings, LLC. L.A. Times Studios is responsible for a variety of projects, including “Second Opinion,” a digital series on public health, climate, technology and other topics, and Bravo’s television adaptation of the hit Los Angeles Times podcast “Dirty John.”

The senior producer will work across the Studios pipeline, shaping concepts, look and feel of Studios content. In this role, the candidate will monitor the work of Studios production teams, advising them from pre-production through edit and delivery. The senior producer is enthusiastic about doing field work when appropriate, too. This is a job for passionate creators who like player-coaching.

Candidates should be avid consumers of news and culture who have a deep interest in telling stories about the big issues of our time. The role will report to the executive producer of Studios.

Job Description

Responsibilities:


  • The senior producer, L.A. Times Studios, generates a stream of ideas for original Studios programing. Though these ideas should reflect topics and trends in the broader culture, the best concepts will take surprising angles and move the collective discussion forward.

  • Works closely with Studios field teams through pre-production, launch, and edit. Keeps productions on track and acts as sounding board and adviser when teams hit snags.   

  • Enforces best practices at each step of the production process, ensuring that budgets are submitted before launch, that plans for edit are well-crafted, and that scripts are in order before edit begins. This is a process-oriented outfit and the senior producer protects that process. 

  • Along with Studios EP, the senior producer maintains contact with parties inside the Los Angeles Times, including its sales and marketing teams and senior members of its newsroom. Senior producer will also seek and nurture relationships with external production and broadcast partners. 

  • Senior producer may be called on to showrun certain special projects, including “Second Opinion.”

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


  • Extensive experience in broadcast television, preferably in news. Has held senior positions, is comfortable leading production teams, and has solid judgment.

  • Strong track record generating original and thought-provoking content in the news, documentary, or film space.

  • Has a deep network in the production world, with relationships with a diverse group of producers, DPs and editors. Arrives ready to grow relationships with potential production and broadcast partners, including independent studios, television channels and other platforms.

  • Flexibility and understanding that the hours may be irregular, with some weekend work, late nights and early mornings required.

  • 10-plus years in broadcast television or documentary film, with at least one senior job running productions.


  • Considerable time spent in the field as a producer.

  • Deep familiarity with the western United States, including its news cycles, politics, and regional traditions.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Has worked at a variety of levels at a national television news network.

  • Has showrun or managed high-profile projects.

  • Has experience producing and managing stories in a variety of formats, including: investigative, feature storytelling, and cultural coverage.
