JOB PURPOSE AND IMPACT
The Senior Food Scientist will be focused on innovation and product development within Cargill’s ingredient portfolio, with an emphasis on plant-based food applications.  This person will also support Cargill’s extensive customer base in new plant-based ingredient development along with new applications of novel ingredient. The role will focus on sensory driven innovation to help move ingredients from concept to commercialization while collaborating with other technical and business teams, including our sensory group.  Research efforts will also involve cross-functional interaction with commercial and technical service teams, as well as customers.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES


  • Identify product growth within our ingredient portfolio and new meat alternative customer opportunities

  • Provide expertise in formulation, benchtop development, and pilot plant processing of finished meat alternative products

  • Provide technical leadership in product and process development and improvement, quality systems, and regulatory oversight.

  • Develops and implements innovation roadmap market plan(s) including market and innovation plans aligned to the business strategy.

  • Work with cross-functional teams (marketing, insights, sales, , technical services, food safety quality and regulatory).

  • Collaborate with research and commercial brand to develop short and long-term testing programs for experimental and commercial products and hybrids.

  • Partner with sales, business management, and marketing partners to identify customer needs and translate these into new product development opportunities.

  • Stay current with literature and analytical advancements and works with independently on daily tasks.

  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of four years of related work experience

  • Tech-savvy and comfortable with evolving business-critical technology

  • Experience in meat alternative formulation and plant-based product development

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Master's degree or other post-secondary degree

  • Six or more years plant-based product formulation

  • Experience with meat processing equipment

  • Strategic thinker with ability to build effective plans to support strategic initiatives

  • Experience working successfully in a matrixed organization

  • Prior experience in product management
