Job Description:

Performs a variety of routine and complex tasks associated with the installation, service, and calibration of a diverse range of therapeutic, diagnostic, and life support biomedical instrumentation.
 
Responsibilities:


  1. Assembles, repairs, and maintains mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and basic electronic devices.

  2. Performs electrical, safety, calibration, and radiation tests on biomedical instrumentation using specialized test equipment.

  3. Documents the introduction of new therapeutic and diagnostic equipment, corrective and preventive maintenance actions, and special requests.

  4. Installs, maintains, services, modifies, troubleshoots, and calibrates a variety of diagnostic, therapeutic, and life support devices by interpreting engineering and vendor information, schematic diagrams, and graphic illustrations.

  5. Diagnoses and corrects system and equipment malfunctions by making alterations, repairs, or replacements to ensure medical equipment and internal circuitry meet specified requirements. Makes calculations for computing circuit elements necessary to adjust circuitry to specified requirements.

  6. Provides technical assistance and instruction to D-H personnel in the operation and maintenance of equipment. Assists in providing recommendations regarding purchase of biomedical instrumentation.

  7. Provides mentoring and precepting to lower level technicians.

  8. Designs, installs, calibrates, and maintains equipment.

  9. Develops new equipment systems and modifications of present equipment and builds equipment unavailable or unaffordable commercially. Works with physicians, patients, and nursing personnel in planning equipment design to meet their equipment needs and in monitoring equipment during patient procedures.

  10. Provides on-going one-to-one teaching of personnel in operation of specialized electronic equipment. Teaches in-service sessions on equipment/electronic safety.

  11. Monitors safety maintenance. Responds to incidents/complaints.

  12. Recommends selection of and installs new equipment and systems. Performs preliminary tests for proper and safe operation.

  13. Participates in equipment evaluation and certification requirements. Corrects insufficiency in specifications and refers unresolved problems to Supervisor.

  14. Maintains current literature, manual files, and equipment logs. May obtain data and historical documentation on equipment.

  15. Performs other duties as required or assigned.







Minimum Qualifications:


  • Associate’s degree in electronics or biomedical equipment technology with 3 years of related experience or equivalent in education and experience required.

  • Knowledge of electronic circuitry and troubleshooting.

  • Able to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and illustrated parts drawing of biomedical instrumentation.

  • Able to read color codes on wiring and electrical components.
     
Required Licensure/Certification Skills:

  • If not already, eligible to become certified as a Biomedical Electronic Technician by the International Certification Commission required.
